Man i am convinced my shin bang is the worst ever i can barley walk... smaccked it down on a firm landing today really backseat.. almost shed a tear any advice a imean how long will it be bfore im hitting the park again
i had shin bang for a good deal of the entire winter so far, what i did was wait for like two weeks before hitting jumps again, i would wait and see how they feel after a couple weeks, if its really bad they will take longer
a good piece of advice is when your just free skiing lean forward and have the pressure on your toes, this is the proper way to ski and will help against future shin bang
They sent me a pair to try out because they saw that people on this site talk about shin bang a lot... I really like them. The shin padding makes your day so much better...
^^ Wear those, or go to a local shop and pick up yourself a pair of Booster Straps. I've been landing backseat for the past two days from learning a new trick and today (the next day) I literally have just one spot on my right shin that is sore and that's it. Booster Straps is God's gift to skiers.
Ive had shinbang before and its pretty painfull, I got some 1080 boots because I hear it helps and I must say im impressed with them thus far. The boot is a lot taller than other boots so it buckles further up your shin so there is less bend in your calf when you land backseat (something I do often).
NO IT IS NOT. this is a huuuge misconception. I can't even walk right now from it and it is the tearing of the muscle from your shin bone caused by backseat landings or buttering. Your shin flexes backwards to support your body weight when you lean back and your heel and feet stay in the same place because you boot cuff holds them there. All of the pressure is applied to the middle of your shin area to support your weight and this tears the muscle.
It can only be cured from time off and exercises to strengthen the muscle around your shin. toe raises and extensions help or using a rubber band to build up the muscle via resistance.
shin bang is a bitch there isnt realy a cure or something to stop it just try not to land backseat. and if u do get it just rest up for lil while then ull be sweet
that is shin splints. it can happen skiing, but rarely does. what most people actually feel is slight (or major sometimes) bruising of their shin. this is usually caused by improper flex of boots, but most often because there is a gap between your shin and your liner, causing you to slam into it.
a booster strap will eliminate that gap and give your boot a progressive flex. you cant bang your shins if you are always in constant contact with your boots.
you can also get little neoprene pads to put on your tongue that make it squishier. this should go on after the booster if its needed.
nah nah nah, when u get shin bang, u take ibuprofein and tighten ur boots, if ur boots are super tight, after a week or so the bang should turn in to sweet love
correct! mogul skiers often suffer from shin splints cos' it's hard not to ski backseat when you're learning to go faster!
alot of people get shin bang just cos' their boots don't fit properly. different boots are good/bad for shin bang too. raichle flexons or dalbello krypton/rampages have much better flex than regular boots so you suffer less, even though they have more flex. you might wanna just get a decent boot fitter to check your current boots out first.
I had 1080 boots for a couple years, they were pretty good, but I still got my shins fucked up sometimes. Now I have Dalbellos and my shins feel great all the time.
Shin splits coem from landing flat and back seat, they give pain in front of the sin and hurt when you run your finger over them. What cased it for me was becuse my feet pronate, that make it so my shit wasnt in the boot right. I also had to wide of a boot and my liners packed out alot. You want a boot to have no room and your shins not to move up or down in your boot. My boot now is also to wide, its for a D type foot while mine feet are C. Only thing to fix it once you have it is, DONT LAND BACKSEAT and rest. Iceing dosent make them better, so not worth the time. I have been to 3 doctors so far about my feet and shins, and talked to alot of shop guys. Go find your self a good boot guy.
its all about the boot.^ you would be getting shin bang because you pronate. every time you lean/carve/angulate you foot collapses and rolls or drags across your tongue, gentley mashing it up. thats causing bruising. landing backseat will definitely cause tearing. get a n orthodic it will keep your leg still
