The Sex Workers Outreach Project asks gamers and parents to boycott the Grand Theft Auto series. A statement on their website reads, "n the interest of furthering sex worker's human and civil rights to life and personal safety, we object to any media which represents sex workers as legitimate targets of violence, rape and murder." Prostitutes as characters in the game are no [i]more the targets of potential homicidal acts than every other character; and the player can't actually commit "rape" on any character, either. But one could argue that protitutes are depicted in a way that demeans them as human beings...but then again, so is everyone else.
Still, it's rather remarkable that one game has brought together hookers, politicians, and Jack Thompson. Shouldn't there be an award for that? It could also be the same award for the Game that Generated the Most Lawsuits.
