Has Newschool Become Diluted?

This is just a thought... I was watching MSP's The Front Line the other day and it made me think of my younger years when newschool was a bit "newer" if you will. Call me old fashioned but there are times these days when I just feel like every skier just looks, acts, and skis the same. It also seems that the talent pool is so large now that there are no more innovators in the sport. Call me crazy, but its just a thought.

nah, I agree with you to a level. Calling it newschool is kinda lame, freestyle is kinda lame too, as is freeskiing. why dont people just call it skiing? its not like snowboarders call it freestyle snowboarding or newschool snowboarding compaired to cruise snowboarding or pow snowboarding or racesnowboarding(which is super gay). Skiers try and disasociate themselves with other aspects of skiing and its really retarded, because its all skiing(xcountry is kinda different) but other than that, its just skiing dammit.

In fact yes, skiing has atteined a new peak. The philosophy is now:to be the best, go bigger than the best. Before it was:to be the best, make a trick to be the best.

I like how you're saying that more people being good is stoping skiing from being inovated. It's the exact opposite. Instead of a few sick people and all the kids try to be like them, we have tons of amazing skiiers and people realise they dont just have to conform what everyone else is doing. You can have your own style an what not

yeah, its true, I mean little 13 year olds are doing cork 7s and shit, I mean I am one of the better skiers at my skipark, but when I was 13 I could barely do 3s, and they had some consequences.

Watch War, then watch something even as new as Happy Dayz. In my opinion it has gone far far downhill since then. In the way of PBP movie production.

skiing has always been skiing...it is only the elitist "cool kids" (cough cough rich kid ns'rs) who feel they have to justify their steeze by ripping on everyone who does not buy in and copy their style....and now that everyone has bought into their style, now they complain that all others are just followers....
fuck dude...unless your over 30, skied for 26plus years and watched the sport change with every run you and your friends made through at that newly opened to skiers terrain park at your lcoal hill...your nothing but a follower....
skiing is has always been skiing....call it what ever you want, divide it up how ever you need to (makes you feel cool huh? looking down at that old guy on his 1200$ carving skis)....actually it makes you look retarded, casue that guy is probably one of your friends dad's who bought him his armadas
Trust me...in ten years your going to be the ones laughed at by the new "cool kids" on the hill
just like I laugh at anyone who talks down or claims themselves to be cooler than they really are

to the person who made this thread:
i totally agree with you. at my home hill, i ride with a group of people (some sponsored and well known, some not) and they all have the exact same style. its this gorilla meets lazy style that almost all these freeskiers today have, at least near me. im not saying it is bad as it is a really good style, but it all looks the same. then there are skiers who i ride with who's style changes more frequently than seth morrisons hair colour, thats fresh

back in the day when i skied not rode skis, me and my buddy both had north face jackets, so to individualize he wore a blue OR tele hat ala mike hatrup.... i think youd get flammed for something like that now.

on a site like this where everyone knows that when you say skiing you mean freestyle skiing, its fine to not call it freestyle or whatever...
but at my school for instance, where i am the only one i know of who "freestyle" skis, i have to call it that, because otherwise people will say "your a skiier? thats soo gay, why dont you board?" so i explain that i do tricks and what not, not race or anything, and they say "oh you mean them gay lil short skis" most people i know just dont know what type of skiing i do, so you have to refer to it as "freestyle skiing"
otherwise everyone who boards thinks your some flame.
and referring to the question of is newschool diluted,i dont think its any more diluted than snowboarding, probably less diluted, because there are so many different branches of style and different ways people do things. and when you say everyone dresses the same, when i see skiiers on the hill, theyre all wearing different shit, and they're for the most part trying different things and adding theyre own flavor to everything they do. so i think newschool skiing as a whole is one of the more original things out there.

i think that the face if newschool has been changing for the past few years, more recently with the all four ways spinning and huge swicth spins...but some people are totally aginst progression like when gagnier did teh 1 footer everyone went fucking biserk,...like fucking chill...but yeh i agree and i disagree

Yeah, I agree with you for the most part, but I never say "freestyle skiing", I always just say I'm a skier. People can think what they want, but I let my skiing talk for itself. Its cool when people are surprised at what your doing because they have never seen it before, and it usually gets a lot of respect. Most people are pretty stoked about it, and a lot of snowboarders say they want to try skiing.

i go with all boarders (because its all my friends do) and they love going with me cuz it makes our group so diverse.its just when im explaining to someone with no idea about skiing at all that i say "freestyle"
