Question about school

im considering applying for colleges around utah....but....ive never been there. i NEED to be close to mountains, thats what i'll be spending most of my time doing. where would you reccomend, and is it serously mormon country over there?

Go to U of U, its the obvious choice. If you want to be close to the mountains live in foothill or very east side of Holladay or Cottonwood heights/Sandy. Yes it's very mormon, no it doesn't matter.

NO. you just dont appreciate any outdoor sport besides skiing. Mad good fishing, hiking rock climbing, mountain biking, etc. So shut ur effing pie hole

There are two things to consider when choosing to go to school in utah:

1. How close do I need to be to the mountains?

2. How badly do I want to go to a lame-ass communter school, where no one is involved with anything at the school and only go to campus to attend classes?

I grew up in utah, graduated high school and went to the University of Colorado at Boulder for a few years and then transfered back to the U because I grew tired of driving 2 hours to the mountains every weekend. But that's it with the U, I think you have to be really into skiing to go there, overwise it will be hell. The parties are few and far between and lack the intensity of those at CU (hard not to have a rager with $35 kegs). At CU you go out to the bars and they are packed with college students, whereas in utah they are a mix of different types of people in different stages of their lives. In my opinion, CU is the much better college experience and going to college in utah barely qualifies as a college experience except for the classes.

If you really want to be close to skiing/mountains and live the 'college life,' I would choose Montana St., CU or some smaller schools before choosing the U. But if you live to ski and want to experience the "greatest snow on earth" first hand get your ass to utah.

getting into the u is easy. super super easy, i think all you need is like a 970 on the SAT and a shitty gpa. if you're worried about that you've got some other problems

The Mormons aren't that big of a deal out here. If you come out and live at the U Dorms, you'll find it never comes up. There are going to be so many other skiers and borders just like you who moved for the snow and are chill enough that you'll love your time here.

So if i go to utah i will be able to ski but there will be near nothing besides that and classes??? I was accepted there and this is exactly what i was worried about. I enjoy skiing to no end and could probably do it everyday but i need some sort of social life.

^you are correct. all utah offers is college and ski resorts, thats wh colorado is so much cooler, they have awesome frats

Dammit, its still up in the air for me. They won't lemme know if I got a scholarship until the end of march. If I don't get one I dunno if I should go for it or not.

I can go to school in Tennessee for free with all the excess aid they gave me, but it fucking sucks here.

Utah will cost at least 12k a year with room and board and the meal plan, and my parents are against me going to Utah anyway, and probably aren't going to help me out. If I took out student loans and got a job and cultivated marijuana during the summer, do you think I could foot the bill?

If all else fails I could bum it in Utah until I got residency...

Go to Salt Lake Community College and then transfer to the U of U once you have your residency. You'll save like 50,000$$ and still have a degree from U of U.

And the 12k a year I estimated is only tuition. I meant 12K + room and board + food.

If I end up bumming it SLCC would be a good option.

yeah going to slcc is good especially if you dont know what you want to do. but if you're a scientist like me and you know go straight to the U.
