Sony Vegas Video 6 is the best there is, but it takes a while to get good at it, not something you can just pick up.

Don't kid yourself bro.
I would say that Adobe Premiere 2.0 is the best for PC, but many would say that it doesn't come close to FCP for mac. But like this feller said, Editing programs take a while to learn on, but they are really fun once u get the basics.

You for your first time it is best to just use imovie or something like that because it will help you get the hang of how Final cut works with out being real complicated and you can still do nice edits with it. also you can understand what it takes to actualy make a nice 10-20min film before you spend over $300 on editing programs. You might find it take more then you are willing to give. When you want to make a movie you need to spend about ten hours filming to get a good two minutes of movie, and you need to hav people who are willing to do the same thing for a whole day. most skiers will get board with one thing after a couple hours. or you will find a nice clif spend about ten minutes finding the right angle then your friends will hit it once and be like that was fun lets go do something else, and it will be like this for the whole day then they will be mad the nect day because you did not get enough fottage of them. Its a hard life unless you have some skiers that are really dedicated to the movie.

Do those programs allow you to do slow-motion and whatnot...'cause i made a like a half-hour long movie, but the editing software i have is no good...no slow motion, very few effects, yadda yadda

however, for learning, I know a lot of people find windows movie maker easy. there are also a lot fo other cheap editing programs out there that are made for beginers.

sorry skiinsted, im gonna have to agree with Bepo on this one: SONY VEGAS 6. The learning curve is a little tougher than most, but once you do master it, it has the most easy to use interface. So much to do on it too.

If your not looking to spend way to much, use lime wire first, but Sony Vegas is simple, but FCP i hear is death until you figure it out..so good luck

to be quite honest no single program is the "best", it's a combination of different programs for different uses. I wouldn't spend $600 on premiere because you can get freeware programs that do the job just as good. and don't forget to download virtualdub if you want your movie to look like a professional film.

if you want something easy to learn on but almost final cut on windows, get ulead meadia studio pro. thats what i used until i could afford my apples and final cut. it was super easy to learn, ive made a good 15-20 movies with that, but yeah if you are serious about it, i wouldnt waste the time, id sell your crappy hp and get an apple.
avid is ok, but its the hardest thing to get the hang of, i can usually teach myself programs pretty quick...but avid took me a while.
sony...personally i dont buy anything sony. i had the vx-2000...3 weeks after i bought it, the top handle just fell off...it hadnt even left my room yet. their stuff trys to focus too much on the OOOH AHHHHHHH.
but then again thats all my personal opinion. other than that, screw mini-dv go super 8 or 16 mil. thats what ive been working with a bit lately.
