how does one become a us ski team member? i am searching the internet right now to fing out where i could race competitive downhill, get training. i dont know anything about ski racing. can someone give me a link or some info on where i can find out some info.
race USSA with a team, then race FIS, get your points below the cut off levels for an event... somewhere around 20 points... so... like top 50... 100 in the world or something. good luck with that.
thats basically it, but you need to go race ussa and fis for a while. start at your local hills race team, then college, then some am fis events. w/ time you will get better and name will spread... im in the same boat. im giving fis a try after college
seriuosly? most kids quit if they arent close going into college... and if they are, and they do go to school... they go some place like dartmouth with an incredible race program.
u gotta get into a ussa team from there u can qualify for states, then regionals, then nationals, then if you are sick the team will pick you up, but it takes years, i raced for years, got to states a few times, and even in NY the kids slay it. my lil bro made it to easterns, but racing gets old after a while so we both copped out and ski the park now. i like being able to decide how i ski rather than having a right and wrong way to do something.
if im 17 and have never competitivly raced before should i even try to start? i mean i have no idea where to do get coaching/train/compete. i would really like to find out though
NO. I raced for a long time (ski academy the whole shot). Raced pro and knew alot of the us ski team.To be competative you have to start racing at a young age. It is like trying to become a gymnast at the age 17 it aint gunna happen period. Back in the 70's Cindy Nelson made the team and didnt start racing till she was 17 (but was a sick athlete). She is the one exception. If you read every ones bio on the usst they started racing at a very young age.
^ it doesn't mean that he can't start and maybe get to the point where he can race a DH. It will take a lot of money and a few years of training and he diff won't win and will be at the bottom of the list but he can have the chance to actually go onto a real Downhill course. It just takes a LOT of commitment
he asked how to make the us team and if he should try. Not if he could race a down hill.
Sure if you want to have some laughs and race a USSA downhill go to yer local mtn and get on the team. It only costs a couple of bux and a ussa license. You will definately get better at skiing.
yeah, 17's too old to try and take your racing anywhere, but if you want to get a lot better at skiing and spend a shit ton of money doing it... start it up
