i have a very small local mountain that is about 5 min from my house...i want to build a big kicker with a down hill landing..the landing is going to be there from natural terrain...about a 25-45 foot gap..ne suggestions on how to build it..how big anmd such>>
i love hitting the tables at the mountain 15 min away but i thouhgt i might try to make this place a little bit more ammusing

cut out blocks of snowand pile them up to the form of the lip u want and then put just loose snow on it and pour salt all over it and wait 10-20 min

Ok so first you want to put snow in a pile, make a frame with your skiis. then put your skiis on and stomp up it to pack it. Then carve it, and yeah 25- 45 ft? That like not big. You need like a 3 ft tall kicker.

If you can, use blocks of hard snow or ice and build the skeleton, then build it up layer by layer.

it lowers the freezing temp melting all the soft snow on top and creating a very hard/icy take off depending on the temp of the day and how much you use.
it will keep it solid so you can hit it more than once without rebuilding it

if you dont know how you probly should not be going to build a "big gap" work your way up. there is no straight way to build a jump it all depends on the location the snow the distance, are you going for hight or distance do you plan to hit it switch, whats the wind like, will you be going corked, is it a gap or just a jump. man you have to know your self we cant teach you.

alright well i can help you out unlike most people on ns
heres what you need to do
1. find two shovels, one for digging and one for shaping
2. go to where jump is and start piling tons of snow into large pile
3. make pile of snow to be about six feet wide and 4 feet high, if you have the snow that is
4. start shaping jump to how you usually see jumps shaped as, it should have enough slope and kick so that it will launch you, make it to be like semi flat take off and not pointed up
5. with the shaping shovel start shaping jump and fixing the sides of the walls and back of take off and make sure you pack it tight so that it doesnt fall apart, spread salt on it to make it melt a little and then it will freeze leaving a solid structure
6. i wouldnt hit the jump right after you have built it but hit it maybe an hour later or day later depending on how cold it is, if its good packing snow then it should be ok but if its light sort of powder it wont hold
7. search the forums to see what a jump looks like and how the take off is concerned as, the only thing that you need to worry about is your take off.
8. hit it and make corrections if neccesary

and anyway if theres a better place 15 min away y dont u just go there i have to drive at least an hour to get to a shitty "hill" and at least 3 1/2 to get to anything that can be considered a "mountain"

if theres a fresh dump, u dont want to use the powder for building. scrape off the pow and take the hard snow out from underneath, it will pack better and if you shape it into blocks it is easy to build a nice size kicker. as far as the shape, you want to make it pretty long so that the transition from the hill to the jump is as smooth as possible. if you are having trouble shaping the snow you should set up your skis and pile snow against them. definitely pack the snow down as you go with your shovel and when it gets big enough side step it with your skis. remember, the smoother the transition, the better time you will have.

salt doesnt MELT the snow away. What it does is make the freezing temp lower. What this helps with is say you have a bunch of snow that won't pack very well. Well you throw a LITTLE salt on the jump/lip, allow it to dissolve, it will make the top snow packy and will cause it to settle a bit so the jump doesnt self destruct. Hitting jumps right after salting them maybe throw you forward and off balance as the the snow will be sticky. Wait a day I suggest or a few hours atleast... or maybe throw new snow on top of the salted takeoff.

carve out a place where there is a wall of snow, like a few feet high, then put your shovel into the wall a foot down or so, then lift up, and voila, you have a nice little block of snow
