forward mountins skis

I disagree with it but yeah, some people do it. I truly beleive there is a reason the mounting point is where it is, becuase the ski was shaped that way. If you move that mounting point there is no way you can utalize all of the ski becuase you've just screwed up the flex pattern. On the contrary, people who mount up skis for powder often mount them back a little to increase flotation (if your weight is further back your tips will float better). Same with newschoolers. Many of them will take the ski and mount it forward which centralizes the binding a bit more....gives you a better chance to ride out that landing that you almost jacked because you landed it too far back. My two cents....

A lot of people centre-mount so that spinning becomes slightly easier. Remember the centre-mounted Line 1260? You can also forward mount both the Scratch FS and BC this year, they have 2 mounting lines, and some 'womens' skis have a mounting point that is moved forward, supposedly for easier turn initiation, but I'm not sure that makes sense.

mike gutt, k2's factory team manager said this in response to a question about where to mount PE's...
'Pep was mounting his skis about 6 to 7 cm forward from the suggested mounting position on the skis he was testing this summer. Most of the athletes mount their skis forward between 2 and 5 cms. We went into the design process for the PE knowing that the mounting points were going to range from normal all the way to absolute center on the ski. Each athlete likes a different location and all had different reasons, balance on rails, riding switch, landing switch, ollies, etc. Basically, no standard answer.'
so there you go... straight answer from an industry insider. if most of the pros are mounting forward, i don't think it would ruin the flex pattern... especially if its only like 2 or 3 cm.
