how come canadians say eh and aboot ("about") in their speach but dont write it when they say post something? i think canadians should bring back the eh's and aboots! i mean its as american as apple pie only for canadians, so that would be as canadian as hockey...eh...?
eh and about are kinda a sectional thing, nobody in eastern canada says it, but the candanian i know from calgary says it alot, so not all canadians say it
I know I say it...actually use it in msn conversations and stuff too. when it comes to accents though american regional accents are just as bad as any from canada. NY, boston, texas are all really strong too
i say eh a lot, and i type it too.
and apparently we actually do say aboot kind of. i lived in australia for a year, and people there used to tease me for saying it differently (but not actually aBOOOT, just a longer 'o' sound). and i can kind of tell a difference in the way my maritimes friends say about too, although it is very slight.
i say eh sometimes but i find americans from some parts like boston, or "bastin" have a thick as hell accent. and some people from newfoundland are fucked, you cant even understand them
I say eh? all the time but I have never said aboot. We were down in Vermont this one time and the most retarded American girls I have ever seen got into the hottub with us 3 Canadians. She goes "so what to you guys do in Canada for the summer?" The one Canadian Alex said "I wakeboard" then a look of utter shock crossed her face and she exclaimed "YOU GUYS HAVE WATER IN CANADA? WOW!" After we realized how retarded they were we convinced them that all of our water was always frozen (even in the summer) and that we all lived in igloo's and bobsledded to school.
haha i knew people would be offended over that, alright i hate ignorant people and some of them just happen to be american, dont get me wrong some of them are canadian too, we just get submerged in so much u.s. stuff its crazy.
i agree with what some people have said above that its the same with american regional accents. people from new england or real southern states dont put theyre accents into the way they type. i guess some people near me do tend to say "yall" online but thats about the extent of it people from the south dont type "im gonna go get a glass of wooter" just like people up north dont type "im gonna go drive my cah"
