so i'm writing a paper for school camparing and contrasting two things. so i chose to compare pollard and hall. i think it'll be a good paper since its two different people with different styles. if you have any input to help me out that would be greatly appreciated. anything from their style in the air, the type of riding, how far down their ass the pants pants are, etc... go crazy

i dont think pollard is this king of the backcountry shit
nobis, micha black, the entire TGR crew and what not is a lot sicker in BC
now pollard is the BC JUMP king.

why do people say tanner skis for the fame....you hardly get famous from skiing fuck....he skis coz he make cash outta it and if you could make bank by skiing wouldnt you...im sure he loves skiing and has a huge drive to push himself to be the best ...not for the fame but for himself because he sees progressing as having fun i guess
Tanner is dope dont hate on him because our sport would be 4 years behind where it is now if it was not for him....

this is awesome guys thanks. ill even throw in some of my input. I think that Tanner is certainly more of a park centered skier (not to say he can't ski deep pow). Their styles are different sure, Tanner likes to go big and push his limits while pollard seems to concentrate more on being smooth and repetitive in the air. Pollard is more BC for sure, you dont see many shots of him chillin in the park all day, its more of riding his hulk size skis in some country half of us havent even heard of. Hall though can ride BC for sure so for all of you out there saying he can't, well, i disagree. As far as the whole "skiing for fame" thing goes, yes Tanner is more mainstream than pollard but thats simply because he chooses to be, he wants to show that he's a great skier this is what hall hads been doing his whole career. Pollard never really tried to get into the scene and being blown up in competitions and whatnot. thats all i have the energy to write now, but keep up the dicussion

hahaahahaha, wow. anyone who says pollard isnt a park skier, you are retarded, plain an simple. go watch royalty. pollard is a beast at park. thats where he started off. back in 1999-2000, pollard was slidin tech rails unnatty, switch unnaty, etc. yes, nowadays, pollard rides BC, and focuses his segments on it, but do NOT let that fool you into thinking he is anyless capable of destroying any park you can put in front of him. pollad is just as good of a Park skier as tanner, and way more skilled in real skiing situations.

WORD.
Remember that hitting a backcountry booter and actually skiing backcountry/big mountain are two very different facets of skiing.

no, I would say they're both innovators. Fuck, even in the same way. I would venture to say that Pollard is the better skier, just because of how well he handles on a real mountain. I think that outside of comps, he could go trick for trick with Tanner, given the drive and the time to train up for it.
That being said, Tanner isn't the most dominant comp skier ever for no reason, he kills it with such consistiency that no one can viably say that he sucks. Both he and Pollard would fuck up a park any day, Hall would destroy a pipe and the rails more so than Pollard, but once they got into the BC, itd be even, because Pollard beats Tanner there.

Also remember who started the whole movement towards non-crossed skis during a trick....the precursur to gorilla steeze, Tanner and Pollard are like two eras of progression.

Pollard is 100% Filming backcountry and backcountry progression.
Hall is more diverse, Competition and some backcountry aspects. Remember, He got injured while DOING backcountry.
Pollard is more laid back and hippie style.
Hall is more Gangster G-Unit and all taht shiza. Yup.
Thats about as much as explaining the two. Other than that you would just have to watch Yearbook or something, a movie with both of them in it at the same time.

oooh deary me. id love to correct you on some of your shit. and yes i realize this thread is very old, whatever.
you say pollard can throw some good cork 3s and 5s and stuff. given yes. he is a very good BC jumper and can throw down some sick spins.
you say pollard cant come close to throwing some of the stuff tanner throws in the park. some of this is true. ill give you some, pollard probably cant pull a clean 12 in the park.
my point is, if pollard wanted to, he could have that clean 12 down no time if he practiced park riding. they ride two way diffrent things, but my point is, if pollard wanted to add some extra rotations to his tricks, he easily could with some practice.
also, pollard dosnt think all of that looks good. thats not his style, hed rather steeze it out and slow everything down. he thinks a long grabbed one looks better and feels better than a thrown out 10.
then comes my point of tanner. you say tanner threw down some big stuff in those movies. absoulty. he threw down some amazing shit. hate to break it to you man, but thats not big mountain. those BC jumps your talking about, definitly not big mountain.
if tanner tried to ski big mountain and steeps, hed have alot harder of a time to get those down well than pollard would have getting bigger spins down. look at some of the big mountain(not BC jumps) and steeps pollard has up on the Line website.

They both push skiing so much. Both in very different, but both in very good dirrections. I can't wait to see Pollards section in Push it's gonna be epic!

True ! However At this stage of his game Pollard does not believe that rails are the future of skiing and that the park is a good training ground for bigger and better things outside the park ropes. they are two completely different types of people and skiers. Both of em kill it !

Those two guys are way too different to compare. A better thread would compare JT Holmes and Seth Morrison or something along those lines.

It's dangerous to start comparing styles like that qualitatively. Not that you aren't entitled to an opinion or anything but I'd MUCH rather compare styles like Tanner vs. Dumont or Tanner vs. Gagnier.
Actually, ANYBODY except Tanner vs. Pollard. That's almost like comparing skiing to snowboarding or something crazy like that. It's beyond comparing park to BC cause they can both do both.
Pollard is bad as fuck, and so is T-Hall, especially for progression, but my personal opinion is that Pollard is really thinking out of the box more. Not that Tanner doesn't progress, but he does so in one direction -- Going bigger, more technical, more styley. Pollard is progressing on a different tangent, taking it towards a standard of uber technical skiing but in a different, more relaxed way.
I want to say its like the difference between the way that guys like the Peters brothers do rails(all 4 450's on, super tech), and the way guys like Travis Heed does rails, being technical but also being more chill about it.
It's late for me and I crashed at Mammoth a lot yesterday so I might not be making sense.

tanner really pushes himself, like with the x games and pipe he demanded perfection from himself to get 1st and he deserved and pollard is just aweseome, skis with the constant pursuit of adventure and enjoyment, but both really ski cause they enjoy every second of it or else they wouldnt be skiing

just start you paper as follow.
in the beginning, there was grifin and josh. soon to follow was their humble friend named eric. these 3 lived in oregon. eric had a talent noone would duplicate for years.
then came along tanner hall out of kalispel montana.(?) he took the oregons boys' NORMAL riding style, and blew it was out of proportion. Instead of just standing on his skis with his hands just chillen, he created "gorilla style", where bending down and pretty much grabbing your boots was "the way". This caught on with a majority of the kids. while the 3 oregon boys just watched the whole scene jump on the dick of someone who did what they did, after them. they didnt get bummed though. they didnt need to creat an image to have fun. they still all ski.
the end.
fuck it,.theres your paper.
no disrespect to T money. he got game. but i can guarantee EP could do just as good in the park....but since hes already done all that shit, he doesnt need too.
