it still amazes me that they hold certain requirements in math or language, but dont make general business classes mandatory, if they're even offered???

yeah it sucks, but grow a pair and tough it out. you'll be thankful you did when you're making a decent living instead of sleeping on the side of the street with your only personal item: your pair of skis.

School is very hard to stay focused on now that I'm a senior and the second marking period is over, so basically as long as I don't fail I'm good. It really is pretty useless right now. College here i come!

i think that it is safe to say that anyone who says that high school is a waste of time is retarded. anyone who drops out of highschool is so much more likely for failure and poverty than anyone who graduates and gets a college degree. but hey, if you want to suck at life, go ahead.

how much of a difference does everyone think of going through high school slacking off but passing pretty good but going to a community college versus working really hard and going to a good college?

You're more likely to continue the slack off trend in community college if you're used to doing that throughout high school. You'll definitly get a better job if you do better in HS and get into a good college (and do well mind you). No question.

AHHHHH ffuck it, it dont matter anyhow, seein as how we all like to live up the lavish life around here so much, whether you go to college and marry some dumb blonde bitch with no personality forever contemplating the vastness of your own misery or you actually think for yourself, the countries gonna go under in a few years anyhow, itlll be them damn arabs doin it, and if not them those coree ans and if they dont put up a hard enough fight the mexis already have the largest scale insurgency on our whole homeland anyway, so fuck it

you're missing the point. anyone can agree that a high school degree is imperative.
but is the high school education really that valuable? it's not to say that I think high schools should be abolished. i think focuses should be shifted, though. i know I will never use derivatives for the rest of my life following a calc course i'm taking right now.

nah, school for the sake of school is a "waste of time". However, there's tons of shit you can learn about life, if you don't focus so much time on learning out of text books.

agreed. it sounds so cliche, but i think it's true that "street" smarts are much more valuable than "book" smarts.

BLAH :P

i dont know why so many of you take high school soo seriously. yes to some school is a big deal. to some it isnt. i could make a terrific living if i dropped out, got my ged, went to trade school and became an electitian. i could also work my ass off on bs assignments handed to me by assholes with less intellect than a garden gnome, use my parents money to go to an expensive state school and work in an office my entire life. either way you should respect others decisions. just because high school is not your thing does not make you dumb. high school and everything that comes with it is bullshit. peace

Dude you just contradicted yourself. You make a really good argument the entire post, and then the last line just goes against it.

thats probably true that you won't use most of the stuff you learn in high school, but i think that a lot of stuff that you might not think you need, will help you understand complex concepts in the real world, like things you learn in chemistry and physics, for example.
I read an essay a few weeks ago about how the point of school is not so much to educate the youth - as many will not need it later in life - but instead to occupy the youth's time. This seems like a valid point because it would be a huge problem if every kid in America were to have so much free time. Crime would go way up, and there would be more unemployment, due to parents' responsibility to look after their children. School takes kids off their parents' hands for 7 hours a day so that they can go to work. So school is therefore an effective way of keeping kids out of trouble and occupied during the day.

I really wish I would have worked harder in high school. I got pretty much all A's in high school with very little effort. I took AP classes and everything. I would learn the bare minimum of what I need to get an A or A- and then forget it.
Then college came. I figured I'd be fine. I'd study a little bit and I expected the same results as high school. WRONG. I didn't learn shit in high school. All my classes were talking about things that I was supposed to have learned in high school that I just forgot about. I got a 2.2 in my first semester of college and I'm gonna be spending the next 3.5 years bringing it up.
So what I'm trying to say is that you should actually give a shit in high school.
