Originating from the word "owned", the word later took on the 1337 variation 0wn3d. Because this was primarily used as a cry of victory or supremacy in first person shooter games online, typos occured, the most common involved missing the "o" key and hitting the "p" key. This stuck, leaving us with the words pwn, pwn4g3, and pwn3d
MEANING:
The past tense of the word "pwn," which means "to kick the ass of (an opponent)."
HISTORY:
Contrary to popular belief, "pwned" did not originate in Warcraft. A top Quake player mispelled "owned" and the term quickly spread to less players and eventually to nearly the entire population of online gamers. The word is usually used in online FPS and RTS games.
USAGE:
Pwned is often said to an individual's lesser opponent after the greater person or team has defeated his enemy.
Can also be used when verbal superiority is shown in an arguement, for instance, on a video or computer game message board/forum.
"My archers pwned your wyvern, noob."
"Clan AIC just pwned you mother fuckers."
(After delivering a perfect arguement):
"PWNED BITCH GGTHNXNORE"
i was curious and looked it up on urbandictionary.com
liek you guys know nothing about hacking, so like why are you even talking about this, gaaawwd i ahte it when little kids pretend they know everything about hacking and what it means to be 31337, you dont evern know the furst thing
it comes from chess. where the least valuable player is the pawn, the pawn is easily killed and used as a distraction peice very often, hence PAWNED when you kill someone with ease.
it originated from Star Craft, where a custom map was made, and when the game was over it would declare "[inners name] owned [losers name]" however whoever made the map mispelled "owned" with "pwned". Which apparently made people think this word was cool, and therefore is used commonly.
