cap is more durable because the topsheet won't chip as easily, however sidewall makes for a better flexing ski.

i believe that they are capped, the other thing is that when a capped ski starts to delam, you have to get it fixed really soon, or the ski will pop, whereas sidewalls are less likely to pop
