Did anyone see the guy drop the cliff under Glacier chair inbetween haole rock and dakine the other day? It's a two stage drop although I believe the guy roped down the first part. I didn't see it but saw the bomb hole at the bottom! I've been eyeing it up for a while, respect to the guy who dropped it -- too sweet.
I saw that today. I dont think its a bomb hole from droppin that. I didnt look closely but it looked like someone just aired from right beside the bomb hole, kinda like hitting a spine super small. Will investigate tomorrow
Look at the ledge in the middle, there are definate sideslip tracks to the edge then the two tracks where he went off. The bomb hole is huge, definately from a big drop. I did see a rope there the day before yesterday where I assume he climbed down to the ledge but next time round the rope was gone. Guess I just missed it. I was hoping he was a newschooler so we could all worship him as a hero.
Any one who feels like doing the chute next to Hawaii 5-0 to see if its possible to survive, please do it. I wana but its fucking scary. I know of one guy whos done it, he fell but walked away.
I looked at the cliff drop and i think you're right. You would have to rapell(sp?) to the ledge first though, but there are definitly tracks in between. Thats intense. And the drop we are talking about there is no chute and its fucking intense. The only way to get the top without dying (IMHO) is to rapell.
half way up glacier chair, when cougar shoots is on your right, look at that big outcropping on your left (like 50 feet from the chair) between Dakine and Heavenly Basin (so says the trailmap) It looks like a pretty impossible cliff, but there are tracks on the ledge halfway down the cliff, and a bombhole at the bottom. I'm still suspicious.
Anyone know what the chute next to Hawaii 5-0 is called? I went and had another look down it the other day but i think its too icey to ski atm, Im gonna wait till the snow is softer. If you fall you slide to the bottom in these conditions.
the funny thing is the other day we were joking about how sick it would be for someone to do that double set. then some crazy bastard ends up doing it by unknown means.
anyone remember when powder published the photo of someones tracks on that big boulder in the middle of the bite?
yes yes yes yes yes.....i have been looking at that forever...thing is, I think you would have to build a landing off the other side...and that looks like a tonne of work. Pretty sure it would be a no go with patrol too
you could just use the little rock adjacent to it that everyone jumps onto when they climb onto that...,. for a landing that is... thatd be sketch thoguh... if its possible
So I did Tower 27, that was sweet. Was second off it after a snowboarder. Didn't quite get round to doing Krakatoa, maybe tomorrow. Did anyone do it today?
i figured out who rappelled down to the ledge beside glacier, but i forgot so i just wasted this space.
the other day i was going up franzis chair and saw a few guys checking out the huge 70+ footer further down the ridge from jordan (the same one that closes brett carlsons segment in parental advisory). the next run there were 4 clean bomb holes in the landing. i have a feeling it was daryl treadway and crew.
somebody skied asian pussy beside corona. that shit looks scary
no it was a bunch of chefs from the old spaghetti factory
first guy side slapped
second guy stomped it clean
third guy hit a rut at the top, cartwheeled off and fell the whole way but lived and i spose the 4th guy landed cleanish.my bro who works with them told me bout it last night. they have the footage
i'm interested in seeing it.
I did DOA today and the curl. The hike to DOA was a bitch. Wind and snow blowing in our faces the whole way and didn't really know where we were going. But once we found it, it was awesome! the actual colouir was quite icy and challenging but once out the bottom the skiing was sweet. Knee deep untracked powder which we ripped up with big arching turns, sorry to the guys who were coming up behind us!
No photos because the weather was crap today but will do it again and post pics.
So does anyone know if someone has done the cliff lookers left of Harmony Horseshoe 5? I'm starting to think its possible. I reckon is about 70ft and after launching big off the Waterfalls on Friday a bit of practice and I think I would do it. We launched off the highest part of the waterfalls, probably close to 40ft.
Also did the coffin. First attempt I ragdolled out the bottom. On the second I stuck it.
I didn't mean for it to come across as bragging, just an acount of what I did that day.
I wish people would come on here and say more often what they have skied, give everyone else who reads a few ideas. The terrain at Whistler and Blackcomb is so huge, I'm only here for one season and there is so much still left to ski. Any suggestions for good lines on either mountain should be posted here so we can go and rip them. Like a ride guide to WB!
you pretty much just follow people who look like they're in the know, they usually lead you to killer lines.
and most people are all like "yeh you can follow us down here"
like last powder day.. few weeks ago me and my bro followed this boarder down off the cat track that takes you back from 7th.. the lines down there fucking rock. we had this open river bed gully thing with like 3 or 4 pillow line drop. it was so nice.
most of the great W/B skiing is PC or out of bounds though
yeah, my bad... see no one ever does and when they do it usually seems like YO CHEK OUT MAH SIK LINE DOODS... but i agree. my appologies.
on that note, sundance and the feeders were both pretty fun on friday. first time sundance had enoguh snow in it to ski it on two skis this season, for me anyway. fun fun.
you guys seem to be in the know, so i gotta ask,
you know when you do that massive hike up behind the glacier to the blackcomb back country stuff.. yeh well i see that everyone skis down then skins out along this big flat area, and i'm guessing that then drops down in to another gully (heading towards wedge).
where do you come out and how do u get back to town??
