As I am sitting here watching the OLYMPIC snowboard spin to win halfpipe on T.V. I cannot help but ask what is missing here? I mean I do think these guys are getting sick no doubt...but Is halfpipe snowboarding really an OLYMPIC caliber sport? And if it is...Why in the hell does the world not get to see atheletes such as Simon Dumont, Tanner Hall, Olson, Farve, and other halfpipe skiers represent for thier countries? I mean seriously...something is missing. Is it fair? Is Halfpipe Skiing not as technical as halfpipe snowboarding...? Do skiers not get the amplitude that snowboarers do? Is a TRUE fakie drop in to the pipe not sick enough for the world to marvle at? Can we not have the respect of the world and history for truley deserving atheletes? This has got to change!
So when you look back to this event imagine the guys I mentioned with metals around thier neck representing thier country and so many peoples way of life, that is is Freeride Skiing which has every right to be in the Olympics and to go down in history with pride.

I saw the highlights, and was pretty dissapointed.
Seemed like the Skiers in the X-Games pipe were going MUCH larger and overall smoother than the Olympics snowboarding pipe.
I don't think the participation is great enough at this time yet to make an Olympic event. Give it some time. It took snowboarding many years before it was finally considered as a Olympic event.

I am sure that this problem will only last about... in worst case 4 or 6 years... then the heads of the FIS must do something. I think at the next Olympic games they will probably try to test the whole thing, but with Bigair and Slopestyle it will be a problem, as long those arenĀ“t a part of the FIS...

its unlikely to happen before Vancouver in 2010. The only way it could possibly come around is if NBC (the television partner for those games) realizes that Skiing Halfpipe will get huuuuge TV audiences. If it does that, they have enough power and weight to swing around to possibly get it as an event. But without that happening, its already been decided by the International Olympic Committee that Skiing Halfpipe will NOT be at Vancouver 2010.

so if you want to do something about, start a petition or something and send it to NBC, not the Olympics.

Personally I dont want skiing pipe in the olympics. Look at what all those fuckin FIS regulations did to freestyle moguls and arials... skiing pipe would suck if there were required elements and deductions and shit. Who wants to see twister spreads in the pipe?

Not true, MinnesotaSki. Quite the contrary....why do you think superpipe was the main prime-time event of X? because it got the best ratings, thats why

Sorry..I can't stand to see skiing get snubbed over and over just because everyone and there grandma snowboards. Snowboarding is like sea-do's and quads. Anyone can hop on a sea do and think they are ripping...same with a quad. It is so much harder to rip on a dirtbike than it is to hop on a quad and punch it. Same goes for snowboarding. Because its so fucking easy the entire world does it, so they feature halfpipe snowboarding to bring in the ratings...but just pretend skiing halfpipe is not as important or amazing?
Its simply wrong!! F! NBC and The Olympic Committee!!

skiing and snowboarding are equally hard...the only difference is the way you're facing going down the hill...i know just as many skiers who are beginners and try tricks as snowboarders...it's all perception

spin to win? shaune whites run wasnt as spin to win like most of the other runs. Judging was better then in X-games in my opinion, it was a great competition. I would love to see skiin in the next Olympicgames.
And alot more ppl are watchin snowboard halfpipe then Racing it seem, and the same could happen to halfpipe skiin i belive.

here's an example of how snowboarding is more popular than skiing: i was sitting in class today and some ditzy blonde was talking to her friend and said,"hey, did you see snowboarding halfpipe last night on the olympics?" there you have it

Skiing is ancient. Snowbording is brand new compared to how long skiing has been around. So skiing should have priority.
