My mom wont fucking let me drive up to Tahoe tomorrow from the Sacramento area because im not used to driving in snow.
its 55 degrees in Tahoe. The roads are dry as a bone.
Ridiculus...
I drive a Jeep. Even if there was snow, it would blast through it like nothing.

Yeah, by the way im 18 and I have been driving for 2 years. Several times through the snow (With my father in the car of course)
Oh yeah, but its perfectly okay if my 17 year old Junior in high school friends bring me up because they are oh so much more trustworthy. Yeah.
I may sound like im griping and ranting and all that shit, but yeah, im fuckin pissed because shes so close minded and undiplomatic...

"I drive a Jeep. Even if there was snow, it would blast through it like nothing."
and you wonder why... thats a pretty immature statement... 4WD helps with acceleration, yes, but what about when youre in your jeep going too fast and have to stop? 4WD isnt gonna help there. i dunno, you may be a fine driver, thats just my 2 cents

^ How does 4x4 help with acceleration??? Pffff, you clearly have no idea how four wheel drive works or is meant to work. If you need to be in 4x4 and you're in the snow, acceleration should be the furthest thing from your mind.
And how is your mum close minded? Like you said, you've only driven in the snow "several" times, clearly you ARE inexperienced. She's just looking out for your safety and your best interests, if you have that much of a problem with it then sit down and have a chat with her about it, don't go fucking NATO on her. It's a breakdown in communication, not a matter of her being "undiplomatic"

Just go. Take the car and go.... she won't be able to get you........... you got her car. It's a flawless plan.

well, you have 4 wheels turning on the snow/pavement. twice the traction. you can grip the road, then go. no?

yeahman i hear ya, last year my parents never let my drive to powder king, the roads were tricky but its worth the risk for pow

It's for better control, not acceleration.

actually no, you couldnt be more wrong. you tires dont spin any faster, they just grip better. your tires will spin the same speed whether theyre all spinning or just two (if anything all 4 is less speed). 4*4 just helps traction, not acceleration, and it does not help with braking at all

Several times being... like 30+ times. Whenever I go up with my dad, I drive because he would rather sleep. BUT. If my father isnt in the car, according to my mom I loose all sense of control? and I drive stupid?
Lets see. No crashes in my history, No speeding tix, 5 different cars driven, 3 of which are stick shifts that are much different from the next.
Iono. Ive been driving 2 years. All I ask for is a little trust. Why does california drivers insurance have to be through the roof...

When I was a senior in high school, my parents moved across the country and got me an apartment after my house was sold because they honestly thought I was a good kid....I didn't mess it up. For the life of me, I don't understand why some parents are so overprotective. You have to let your kids take chances and make choices that could result in adverse consequences so that they are prepared for the real world and independent.

technically you do accelerate better, but theat is jsut b/c your front tires are working toward moving you SUV/car/truck. In 4x4 all your tires sping at the same speed as in normal driving, if you are going 35 all tires are going 35, there is no differance in revolutions/sec in 4x4 as compared to 4x2.

okay. Understand this. When I am driving on snow covered pavement, I couldnt give an everloving FUCK about acceleration. I just care about all around control and handling. I would only be going like 30-35mph if there was snow...
You guys have a retarded argument.

there is absolutely no snow on those roads right now. Hasn't snowed for a while, so highway 50 from sac is completely clear. Plus, in a jeep you'll be fine.
That sucks she isn't letting you drive though. If you want to better your odds next time though, you can always pull up the cal trans website. They keep road conditions of the highways around here and will tell you that it's clear right now.

How stereotypical.
Especially being that most Californians werent even BORN in California.
I found that comment rather hilarious. Dont bash California, we are better than you.

im saying that 4wd helps you grip the road better in snowy condidtions, so you do accelerate faster. if theres no snow? well then...

if you have twice hte tracktion adn it helps you accelerate, would it not be the same tracktion that would let you slow down. becasue you have twice as much tracktion.
and it doenst help you accelerate.

wow, you guys are retarted. for accelerating in a 2wd vehicle, only 2 wheels are given power from the engine. in a 2wd car while braking, all four wheels have brakes right?
in a 4wd car, all four wheels are given power so it can accelerate faster. so then you're braking in a 4wd car. all four wheels have brakes right?
to sum it up, 4wd cars accelerate faster on slippery surfaces (like snow) than 2wd cars do, but they both brake the same. (unless using engine braking... but that another story)

Yeah, I know what you are saying, parents suck like that. My mom pulls that shit, but only when there is like a foot of pow on the road. Then I go to the local hill, not the resort which involves driving the most dangerous highway in the state. On the way back one day, I tried to count the crosses on the side of the road and I lost count at 29 which was about 25 miles into the 50 mile drive.

Thats an absurd statement, being that my jeep grand cherokee could probably take on any snow condition out there, especailly with the studded snow tires installed...
You probably dont even have a car to drive, so I would just shut up.

Just haveing 4x4 wont make you handel better in the snow, some of the best handeling vechiles i have ever driven have been FWD. My moms old mini van sucked at getting going in the snow, but once it was going it handeled just as good if not better than my ZJ.
All times are Eastern (-5)
