that would be good and bad for the sport for many reasons.
it would be good that it got the sport more mainstream, that is both good and bad, but it could also push it in the wrong direction by making people compare it to snowboarding and stuff.
In the new Powder there are a few guys who have been working on a major production for a documentay for the progression of skiing. It is related to the surf movie "Riding Giants". They have been conducting interviews from Alaska, to Whistler, to Jackson Hole. They have been gaining tons of footage over the last season also. It is still in the production stage and they do not have a full list of people working on the project yet but there are suppose to be at least 50 people.
^I don't that that movie would be very good. I also don't think first descent was a very good image of snowboarding. I mean big mountain is fine but it would just be double backflips and helicopter take offs for two hours. Maybee older skiers would watch it and enjoy it, but probably not because most older skiers arn't really into how cool the sport is. I would like to see more money given to smaller production companys doing unique things with the sport instead of funding more heli trips to AK for the same dozen pro skiers and filmers.
anybody been to the movies lately and see that fake ski movie thing. The previews for turning off your cell phone? Its looks all tight and then you see a guy doing a lawndart and a cell starts ringing and he falls. Then it says "Please turn off your cellular phones"
I really think they should make a major production movie for the progression of skiing. We need exposure, wether you like it or not, to gain respect which will lead to very lucrative sponsorship deals meaning more comps., more clothing for more styles and more sponsorships for all you out there.
They are making one! Just like they said, The Edge of Never, it has McConkey Seth, and those guys. When sethpistol.com used to be up there was an update about it. It should be pretty rad
The movie is being made, and it is hopefully going to be pretty good. I'm still not clear on whether it's going to be a real theater release or more of a TV release. It's going to talk a lot about ski mountaineering in addition to the Seth Morrison/ Shane McConkey type skiing.
or they could just make the seth morrison chronicles a major motion picture and throw in teh beginnign of newschool...until someone hucks something as huge as seth in AK he still is the pinnacle
