Olympic Sports

I was just thinking the other day, the olympics only actually have two freestyle events: mogals and aerials. I like mogals, so I think they're cool, but I don't really believe aerials is truely skiing.
But anyways... I was looking at the types of events and there are well, freestyle, then alpine(racing), and ski jumping. Then there's pipe for boarding. But I thought, if people are watching all of these other ski events like racing, and ski jumping, doesn't it give us newschoolers kind of like a bad image? I'm not saying racing is bad or anything, it's just if you tell someone you ski, they'd automatically think your some kind of spandex wearing gate hitter. I'm not trying to diss racing or anything. I just think there should be so many more events in the olympics. It's not really fair they stick to all these traditional things for skiing, then give boarders pipe.
If all the newschool stuff was in the olympics, like big air, slopestyle and pipe, people all around the world would be like, wow, they can do that? I kind of think a lot of people aren't familure with skiers being able to hit jumps switch, or do rails. And what's up with snowboarding just having pipe? I thought that was kind of funny seeing as they would choose to include pipe in the olympics, but no park or slopestyle.
Even for summer olympics, there should be so many more sports included. Like, street and pipe skating, aggressive inline, mountain biking, surfing, ludging. Just so much more. This is just what I think.
What do all of you other newschool skier think about having/not having stuff like park and pipe for us in the olympics? I just think it will open the eyes to so many more people that don't even know what a twintip is. I believe it would do sooooo much for the sport.

i agree! i always hate telling people that i ski, cause i know they just think of the suburaban kid who wears short pants and skids turns with short skis

i agree with you completely, but when you think about it, halfpipe is one of the traditional "snowboard things" whereas it is not one of the traditional "ski things." the olympics are going for tradition.

im not ever gonna make money from the sport, so i dont give a flying fuck about the athletes making a living

i just want my sport to be how is was in 2002

first of all they shouldnt add any ski sports to the olympics!! Why you ask? because the olympics is an old school type of thing. i mean they having curling in their not to mention figure skating. Freestyle is a relatively new school type of skiing which has its own olympics, its called the X games and yeah you win gold medals there too.

So what does this mean? it means they should take out all the snowboarding events (pipe, downhill) and they should take out the skier X thats starting this year!! they dont belong in a system that wouldnt even let Freestyle moguls go inverted!!

The olympics is a venue that restricts any type of progress, so why would you want our society to be subject to that? My personal thinking is that new school skiing will do better in the long run if its not to that it has rules that it has to abide by in order to win. You want to be inovative and revolutionary!!

The downhill is completley f-ing sick!!
Mogals are pretty coll to watch too!
As far as snowboarding as an Olympic sport goes it is just a way for the Olympics to get better ratings after years of dropping intrest. Ariels are really pretty insane but somehow it just looks a little corny with like 150 cm ski with no poles, landing with thier hads all out and stright like an olympic pool diver. I say the Olympics needs to add halfpipe skiing to the mix. I have said it before, and i'll say it again. If they feature snowbording halfpipe, they should feature skiing halfpipe. Its just as sick (if not more) and it takes just as much skill (if not more). Fair is Fair. Wake up time for the Winter Olympic committee.

If I do think of it now, mogals and aerials have very intense training. So I wonder what would happen to newschool(like park and pipe)if it was in the olympics. I wonder what would happen, like would the FIS make a bunch of rules trying to limit what we do on our own time? But I'm not to familre with what they did do to freestyle.

But the point is, I do still think that a lot of people would be like "WOW", skiers are just as good as those snowboarders. And it would give newschool skiing a large boost in the amount of people doing it. And Ice-Is-Scary, you do have a good point there in how it does truly not really matter as long as we're having fun with what we do. There is also very little money in the newschool ski community right now(or so I hear). It just might give newschool skiing a boost in terms of people doing it and money

First off, did anyone see the areial skiers in sports illustrated last week. They looked so fruity, just a side comment.
But really, it takes a lot of time to get an Olympic sport. First, so many countries have to do it and have enough intrest in sending athletes to the games. Then, the sport has to make a trial appearance at the games to see if they would make a good enough show. So your looking at least another 8 years before freestyle skiing an Olympic sport. I don't know if it would be worth the trouble trying to get something that is cool because its low key and almost underground to go big time. Just my opinion.
