Does anyone know anything about computers?

I'm having troubles with my computer. A while back we thought it crashes, but some of the programs still worked but we lost a bunch of documents. When this happens, normally I just to and reinstall MSN and my life goes on as usual... but when I went to reinstall MSN, it wouldn't log on for me. So it's not the connection that's keeping me from getting on... does anyone know what I should do? I'm having MSN withdrawls!!

that said... you're computer is fucked. problem with computers, unless you know what you're doing with windows, it will get fucked up, gaurenteed. Linux won't, but Linux takes some real commitment to learn. macs, well... they're, shall we say, The Saddam of computers... (ever seen the south park with sadaam and the devil in love.. you get the point.)

Pat... MAC OS X is a *nix derivative... you don't know what you're talking about on that subject :-P

That said... I can't diagnose the problem considering you haven't given me anything close to a reasonable explanation of the problem and its symptoms.

What OS are you running? Windows 98? WindowsXP? What? Windows XP has Windows Messanger (MSN Messanger) built into it... from your explanation, you probably just need to go into the settings and tell it your username and password...

I would never suggest linux to a person who has no desire to want to learn that method of using a computer. If you're not a good computer user you don't want it. I've got no probs w/ macs, my roomate has one, and he doesn't have shit for problems, except for when his printer doesn't work he has to walk quite a bit ways away to the mac lab to print out his documents.

Andy, we have Windows 98... and I hate it. But I hate computers in general. I wouldn't even know how to begin with symptoms or anything! I know, this isn't helping, either.

I know about macs, I just personally don't use them.. I thought it was humerous... but obviously my lack of computer knowledge made me bewildered and amkes me looked flustered eh?

call msn and ask them for a disc w/msn on it.-phone #-18002239275. unfuckingfortunatly I have the stupid thing. msn is something in it'self. If it was about say anything else I could probably help more.

or you can try talking to support-I think it is that same #. but they are mostlikely more bumb at computers than you are and can't really halp you. on top of the hour long hold time...

ok-ya i didnot remember the part in her message that said she re-installed it already but do you have the latest version? if you don't might wanna try getting the cd anyway. I think from what you say you have to do a guest log in.-is that how you have to do it for now?

and yes andy is right, you arn't giveing enough info. If you really want help, explain step by step what you do to connect the way it is now

Step by step, eh... Well, I go and I right click and I put in my password and then it right away tells me I can't log on for one or more of the following reasons: my sign-in name doesn't exist (which I know it does), or my password was incorect (which I know it wasn't), or the passport services are temporarily unavailable (which I know it is).
My Mom said something about not having 28-bit incription... which I have no idea what that was. We also can't get into certain websites that have passwords or lots of security. I don't understand it.

well if you lost documents like you said you did then it is something more serious and just fixing messenger wont last. you probably got a virus try going to www.pcpitstop.com and do their online virus scan (its over on the left hand side of the page) and probably the ultimate solution is going to be to back up any important information and then to format your hard drive and reinstall windows

lol, sounds like your browser settings have been changed... go to like http://www.opera.com or http://www.mozilla.com and download one of their browsers... see if those websites work then...

about the MSN thing... are you sure you are typing your username in right? make sure that its

do you have high speed internet? sounds like it...


if so do you have a router hoocked up?
what coumpany is it made by?

you could try changing the settings in internet explorer. go to tools-internet options-security (at top)-then slide the slider all the way down. then click ok.

if that doesn't do anything let me know but that could likely be it...

oh and andy i dont think someone who recomends that someone call msn and ask for a cd is an idiot. another word needs to be made up.

that being set try this:

1) in your browser click TOOLS -> INTERNET OPTIONS and in the second tab labled security click : 'Default Level'

2) under same box click the last tab 'Advanced' and click 'Restore Defaults'

I'm not gay, therefore I don't use MSN Explorer... Internet Explorer is the default Windows browser, MSN Explorer is only used by those too gay and stupid to disable it. Try Mozilla or Phoenix... those are REAL browsers.
