Whats wrong with my knee?

I lost a ski after a little 10ft air and tried to stop with my left leg dowhill. My knee got rotated uphill and it was just about 50ft of cartwheeling after that. After I was done rolling I noticed a sharp pairn in the back left side of my knee wrapping around to the front. I laid down the about 10 minutes then proceeding to hike back up, get my skis, and ski the rest of the day. I thought i had just twisted it, no big deal. The day after, till now a week later I have not been able to lock out my knee or make quick movements without being in pain. Stairs are also a killer on the knee, but in a different way. I'm heading to the doc on monday.Just want to be prepared for what I'm about to hear if you guys have a clue.

A doctor's job is to decide what is wrong with your knee, not us.

not necessarily. If you have no stability as well, Possibly ACL, clicking, possibly Meniscus. Depending on where the pain is on your knee. Elaborate, I'll try to help (I've had 3 acl surgeries, torn both MCL's, left meniscus, and dislocated both knee caps a couple times each)

Does it still hurt outside left? (lateral) If so, probably the LCL.

it may be your hamstring cuz its starts on the back of the knee and wraps around to the front.

The only way I would have stopped that day is if I couldn't stand. It was my last day in utah and it was too deep to quit.

the exact same thing happend to me and i skied the rest of the day as well. I never saw a doctor and I dont really have any problems anymore. Although, about 2 weeks after it happened i would wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to move anything below my knee(happened every other night basically)

how fast were you going to tumble 50ft after a 10ft table?

I'm in the same boat. Yesterday overshot a jump and tweaked my knee sideways.
Doesn't hurt that bad unless I make certain movements. Can't walk so well either now.

is it outside left, or like behind the knee kinda too? because i hurt my paplitial muscle which is actually really small, but important, and its killer and not recovering well. and yeah they thought it was a torn miniscus at first

you probably strained/sprained one of the ligaments in your knee... best recommendation is ice it for a little while and dont do a lot of activity w/ it then if it sill hurts after another week or so you need to go to the doctors

well if it doesnt start feeling better soon id say go to an orthopedic doctor and theyll probably send you for an mri, that way you can actually find out whats wrong with it and take whatever action is necessary

well if your still walking on it you might have just ripped a ligament(not torn all the way), or maybe you streatched one really bad (that would be the best one)

that's bullshit, you and I both know it's a hyperextended acl, fixable with bedrest, ice, compression elevation

Torn ACL dawg, sorry to tell you. The not being able to extend the knee all the way is the sure sign. When my dad did his that was the main thing.

I would say that you probably tore your ACL because your foot was planted but your body continued going forward. The rotation would have probably lacerated your meniscus which is the padding between your two leg bones. And you would have likely sprained your medial collateral ligament. However, since you did a bunch of cartwheels you likely sprained most of the ligaments in there to some extent, so really it's hard to say. And since you wanted to know what you are probably gonna hear on monday: You probably won't be skiing again this season. I did a very similar thing playing football and the recovery is several months. But I'm totally back to normal now, so don't worry it's nothing permanent.
All times are Eastern (-5)
