The administration got what they wanted by getting her outta there, and figured they could just apologize for it later. The Bush administration doesn't care about anyone else's rights.

^^ haha, its funny that by the way someone presents their religion, most of the time you can guess their political views as well.

She got arrested because the president doesnt like her.
If you had any respect for the principles the country was founded on, you'd find something wrong with this too.

that woman is a nutter. shes been on this rant for months. freedom of speach was intended to criticize the government, not harrass it till it followed your point of view.

Yea and isnt that what bush is doing? He's always repeating himself and making promises that never come true. Compare his "promises for the country" in his last state of the union to now, and all most none of them have come true. Hes the one harassing this country, trying to get everyone to follow his point of view. Fuck the patriot act, and fuck republican america.

"``How can we claim to be fighting on behalf of freedom around the world, making the world safe for freedom when we are smothering freedom here at home?'"
Thats easy... Your not fighting on behalf of freedom. Through out hitory the most common reason for going to way is resourses. Someone else have something you Need. So you take it. People who cant see that this war has nothing to do with spreading "freedom" and democracy (or Forcing our way of life upon people who have their own culture and tradition) and everything to do with Oil should go back to middleschool.
I wish the Bush administration wasnt so spineless and would just come out and say "We need oil, So we are going to take oil!" instead of using all this terrorist freedom hating propagandha.

Yeah, I agree... you should be free to speak your mind, but only until it annoys other people. Then you should be locked up.
Anyway, way to blow this out of proportion...

This country was also CREATED UNDER GOD, which doesn't seem to matter any more either. JD put it best.

Surprise! Free Speech is an illusion!
wasnt it sad when you believed in it?

And not sarcastically at all. Good point by the way on the "Under God" thing; there are specific and unquestionable moral rules in the bible, why don't we just incorporate those passages into the legal code so that this kind of activist crap can't happen? The fact is, a country's leader is appointed by the divine and therefore should not be challenged. Challenging a leader is tantamount to heresy. I'm glad someone else sees it my way!

Huh? I just said I'm not being sarcastic. Think about it. Obviously, the Lord decided that, in this case, Bush was to lead America. Otherwise he wouldn't be there. If something happens, God wills it. It's simple. Plus, Bush himself has said that God has helped him along the way by speaking him and telling him what policy to effect, so there's that evidence too. Some people are skeptical of that, but how can you question someone apppointed by God himself? That's heresy, is all I'm saying.

Just a little tidbit too, but who in here over 18 has ever had their freedom of speech taken away personally? I used to be in a band, and really into the punk rock thing, and I never had anyproblems, even tho i was way anti government.

I bet only a few people, mostly minorities, who don't even really count... and even if you have had your freedom of speech restrained, just remember that that one inconvenience is for the benefit of your freedom, because it's catching terrorists. Being oppressed a little isn't really that bad if it's for the good of the country overall. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the minority. See? Simple.

Whatever happened to respect, that state of the union is supposed to be dignififed, showing up in a t-shirt just aint right, and the democrats invited her as a publicity stunt

^but to be arrested for that? there's no way that's justified.

Of course it's justified. Dress codes trump free speech. You want the country to look slovenly and unprofessional on its own networks? Fuck that, if she wants to express herself, she can damn well dress appropriately. There are limits to how far you can take your personal freedoms, and a T-shirt just crosses the line.

everyone got so gay since this war.

It didn't actually have anything to do with the war, it was actually the homosexual agenda. They have weekend meetings to figure out what their agenda is, and basically it's to make more people gay. They're working on a weapon, a giant "Gayzer", to turn people gay en masse. They must be stopped, but no one sees it!

You know what happened to free speech? We fucked it up. Every time you censor a fucking TV show or arrest someone for their opinion. Even passing laws that restrict people from airing their own stuff. We fuck up our rights. It isn't Bush. It's those fucking moms who think their kids are going to grow up in a perfect society and want to censor everything off the face of the fucking planet. That's what fucking happened to freedom of speech.

Go hump a bible you stupid fuck. Your religion has nothing to do with the government taking away citizens rights.
But what do you guys expect? This shit has been happening for ever, We are just seeing it in our time period. Started with the protest of the vietnam war mainly, where revolutionists got shit 20 times worse than being escorted and later apologized too.

dude...normally I side with you on religion stuff, but in this case you are wrong. Thomas Jefferson and most of the other founding fathers were Diests and not Christians. The term "One nation under God" was invented in the 20th century.

JD, you cant just think god willed everything to be as it is.... that idea of a nation rising to its religious potential by truly electing a divine leader is a fantasy. If god willed everything, then man would have no free will, so the battle for good ane evil, heaven and hell doesnt work anymore, taking the divinity out of our actions.
dont you think you rushed into that one a bit fast.... the last three comments you made were great, but even you know that what you say could just as easily could be wrong, a entirely different perspective could be in power, and youre just running with an idea, an idea that takes you somewhere. the idea thrain.
so,......in conclusion........... i agree that t-shirt cross a boundry by labelling yourself one sidedly. it barely gets your point across, and doesnt provoke a multisided perspective. which leads to new ideas.
and bush wasnt elected to Leader of the World by God.

haha. I love Jd's comments on this.
Personally, I think the situation was handled very poorly, and if someone inside a courtroom wanted to wear an anti-war shirt then so be it.
Sounds like they weren't just discriminating against anti-war activists, as 'Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer also apologized to the wife of a House Republican who was told to leave the chamber during Bush's speech for wearing a shirt bearing words of support for U.S. troops.'
I don't quite get how Bush deserves all the blame for this one though. Unless he stopped the State of the union address and ordered his henchmen to lock her up. Or maybe he did?

we talked about this in law class at uni today. the reason they said she got taken out was bullshit, but she should have been taken out anyway. in Cohen v. Califorina, the supreme court ruled that cohen was allowed to wear a jacket that said "Fuck the Draft" as long as there was no compelling reason he couldnt, ie wearing it in front of a kindergarten class. The legal reason they should have been taken out was the ruling that it is unlawful to impede the work of government. It was set up so you couldnt walk into the floor of the senate and start protesting. if anyone could do that, imagine how many people would. i agree, it was a sketchy govt. move, but they were in the right on this one, they just didnt know it at first.

I do realize J.D. was most likely sarcastic in saying taking away certain freedoms will eventually help us out. However, that has been the case in times of war before. Taking away the writ of habeus corpus is certainly bigger than anything Bush has done in recent memory. Also the man that did so has come to be considered one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, presidents of all time. So taking away some freedoms may at times be necessary, and please don't think by saying this I am advocating what occured. To be honest, I have mixed feelings on the issue.
