Replying to State of the Union
I have to say i was actually really impressed with bush's speach this time around. I'm no bush lover, but he made some really valid points, and had some really good initiatives (AP initiative). While he scored points on some stuff, he still managed to drop in some really underhanded comments.
He said we're going to cut our middle eastern oil dependance by 75% by 2025. thats all well and good as the average american believes we get over 80% of our oil from the middle east, but really we only get about 20%. that means that in 2025 we will still have 85% of the oil dependance we currently have.
He also said that extraction in Iraq would be left to "military commanders" who know what they're doing instead of "policy makers back home." Sweet, we're actually going to have some people in Iraq make legitamate decisions about troop withdrawl etc. Nope. Bush is commander in cheif... he is THE military commander, so he basically said "im deciding" but subtley.
what were other peoples thoughts?
