Here is a guide to how to effectively use the search bar.
WHAT is a search bar?
A search bar is that little space at the top-right of the front page. You can use keywords to see if you topic has been talked or debated about.
WHY a search bar?
Beside it you may chose between the forums, news, pictures, videos, articles, reviews and members. Beside that there is a button called search. That is the search bar.
WHY a search bar?
A search bar lets a member look for an existing part of text (mostly forums and threads)on this site. The search bar also gives the member information about a similar or exacly the same idea he or she wants to tell. This way, people will never post the same idea 3, 4, 5 even 20 times.
HOW to use a search bar?
This is a killer for inexperienced users. To use the search bar, type in one word which your idea is related to.
For exaple: you want to talk about rossignol skis. To know if something like that has been posted, go to the search bar and write a related word like rossignol (check for mistakes). Then scan through the results to see if your subject has already been talked about.
Other example: Before I posted this thread, I typed "search" and scaned through the results in the forum section. It is important to wright the less words possible during the search.
Example: you are going to post something about Bush policies on oil. DON'T type "Bush policies on oil" because it will never work. Insted, use the keyword "Bush" to find the results.
WHEN to use the search bar?
The search bar is used before you post a thread or to search for an existing thread.
Ok, I can't get any more basic here.
