first, try it off one of the small jumps at the side of trails, but make sure you tweak it like crazy, or else it looks bad and everyone wants to have madd steeze. the landing is sick when you do that.
when i do them the cross just comes naturally. The more comfortable and balanced you are in the air the easier it will be, I get bored in the air and look for things to do unless i'm spinning, then it gets a little more hectic to grab. And I still suck at skiing so... lol
uh didn't you read Doug Bishop's blog??? Double japans are like, so played. The cool "unique" riders like Doug are rocking the straight air pencil steeze, cos thats like so "individual". Hah
bring your left leg up and grab your ski with right hand. then tweak back towards your right side while bringing your right leg up. Point your toe and make it look like an X. This was the first grab I learned. It looks good
tweaking is when you grab your ski, you pull it back just that bit more. Watch the vids of them doing it. It should look like a good X. When you go for the grab, just pull the same way you are grabbing. or look it up in the seachbar...
So I grab with my right hand my left ski. Then put my weight to the right and my left ski over my right ski? And still grab my ski? But do I grap ski or binding? Back or front?
its super easy, just reach down like your gonna touch your ski, and bring your leg up, so you meet it half way (grab as far up on your ski as you can). then tweak it out majorly, show the bases of your skis to the camera.. bring it back, land and be like BITCH WHAT!
hit the same jump a couple times to get to know your trajectory through the air. remember to keep your weight over your toes and and arms and infront of you. its super easy at first to use your arms like a sight for a gun and spot your landing from between your hands. after you have your air sense. try to through a mute in sort of mid way through the air when you already knwo your going to land properly. after a few more attempts of grabbing sooner and holding longer you should be able to tweak it. remember start small and work up. its all about progression. if you jump right into a schiller tweak you'll eat shit. take it easy and get your grab dialed. then the next step is a nose mute. this I find is easier then a mute because grabbing forward on your skis actually helps you with your landing because your already leaning forward. good luck.
uncrossed mutes are sick. basically do a shifty and grab mute. i have to agree with whoever said the further towards the tip you grab, the better. anyone notice how crossed Gagnier had his skis during the X big air? pretty crazy.
tweak's just pulling it more to make it look more..... steezy. but don't do what i did the other night, i grabed the mute and just yanked it to hard for the tweek and i pulled my ski off. It was by far the gayest thing that has ever happened to me. It was like right at the peak of my air to and i was just like, "oohhhh fuck."
