Anyone here ever heard of a guy named Pat Metheny? He has a group accurately named "The Pat Metheny Group" that's been around since the 70s. They have an unbelievably relaxing mood to it, it's like a contemporary jazz, Metheny is an incredible guitar player. In fact, he was teaching at Berklee School of Music in Boston at age 19. If you haven't heard them already they are a definite sound to check out. I'd recommend they're album "First Circle".
I like Pat Matheny. In fact I've played "The First Circle" arranged for jazz ensemble, and it's a killer chart. 12/8-10/8 interchanging time feel. He's pretty much a genius.
oh man, you're so lucky. we've been trying to get our jazz director to order "The First Circle" for us. seems like it would be a tough chart. we've actually played "Minuano", "Dream of the Return", and "(It's Just)Talk", which are wicked nice charts. "Minuano" was especially sick because it has a nice bari sax trombone feature at the beginning, and i rock the bari ;).
Hahah awesome man. Yeah we played "Dream of the Return" and "Letter From Home". But "The First Circle" is a completely different beast, you gotta have a solid lead trumpet player with a solid double F# at least. That was th part I played. It's a great chart for sure though.
