Fuck The Switch Double Back

Not really. I haven't seen it live yet but I'm sure it was sick. My thing is that all we ever hear about is style and how skiing should just be style and not hucked spins or flips. In my opinion, a switch double back is hard as hell but has no style whatsoever. For anyone who has been around the scene long enough, you might remember ths Scharab (sp?) brothers. These guys were pure huckers, throwing double backs, triple backs, double back 180's and so on. Super hucked and 0 style. Stuff real simlar to a switch double back but like 4 or 5 years ago. Very few people on here respected them and said that was what was wrong with skiing. Now just because Bushfield goes out and throws one in a comp where everyone else was throwing switch 1080's, everyone say's he should of won. Yes, he was different, but if this comp or the next turns into a switch double back competition, I think we are gonna be getting away from style that we all so dearly want. So, I guess what I want to say is that, I'm sure Bushfield's trick was hot cause everyone was bored of switch 1080's, but it definately wasn't stylie or deserving of a top 5 finish. I respect Rory tons cause he tried it, but it definatley shouldn't be as respected as any of the super clean and tech switch 1080's that were thrown, even if he woulda landed it. Like I said, this is my impression from write ups on the x-games since I haven't seen it yet.
Another thing is that switch double backs aren't new at all. A long time ago (again 4 or 5 years ago, which is long in newschoolers.com time) I remeber some one posted a link of some finnish guys doing switch double backs and 1440's. Again, sick as hell, no style.

exactly "Fun" which skiing should be, style is awesome but i think fun is better, you know the athlete is having fun when they throw stuff like switch backflips, i think it makes the sport look way more fun than making sure your switch 10 is perfect

Where do you get the impression that I was upset. Its just my opinion on the matter.
I guess I meant to say its not the double back that I don't like, its all the kids on here that complain about style one day, then the next worship Rory cause he hucked a switch double back. You can't have both.

i think if more ppl threw more stuff that was diverse and hard, like granigers sw bio 10, or the dub back. the comps would be more interesting

You have to realize that in that clusterfuck of a contest, the skiers were forced to do what would impress the judges, not what they would have the most fun with, or stick with the most style. Keep that in mind.

I dunno, personally I thought the switch backflip was pretty stylie. Its not like he completely hucked it, he threw up and just held onto his knees for both rotations, it looked pretty good in my opinion.

its funny how everyone changes what they like, everyone hated wilson flips 2 years ago or whenever and now everyone likes doubles.

It was just sick he threw it and did something other than a switch 10.

Seems like a cycle. Huge spins were in and inverts were out but soon everyone will switch to doing inverts again and people will hate them and wish for switch 10's.

rory bushfield is super sick, i never woulda guessed seeing him in the clothes he wore and then he did a super sick trick and fell, darn

i never hated the wilson flips, they were always pretty progressive to me. Now with the size of the jumps that we are seeing in comps double flips can be thrown without looking as hucked as before.
really though, i wish someone would throw some rodeo or misty 7's and 9's because it would add to the diversity of the contest plus they are inverted spin tricks.
just my two cents.

markman, right on!!!! you got it right on. I personally think a switch 10 shoulda won it. I dont think creativity should be rewarded at all. i personally would pay big bucks not to see some one try to progress the sport. Screw Progression... long live the switch 10!!!

Thanks for the sarcasm. Anyway, I'm not saying I didn't appreciate the creativity of the trick but in my opinion it was not progressive. Switch backs are a hucked flip with little or no style to them. In my opinion its the equivalent of a straight tucked triple back. Hucking with no style. Cool as shit but not a trick I want to see performed in competition. I know there weren't that many options in this fucked up competition but a hucked sw double back is not progressive.

How exactly do you judge what a trick is going to look like just by its name? I really don't get why people are whining about the bigger tricks being thrown, I mean, how else do you progress the sport? I don't think making your switch 5 slightly better looking is going to do anything for skiing, however, a switch double backflip will push people to do new things. I just can't imagine watching a professional ski contest where everybody is throwing tricks that thousands of other people can do just as well, it's pointless. In order to push a sport to a new level, you have to do something new and more difficult, and that won't be accomplished by whining about style.

and 24 switch 10s was? no. there are tons of people who can throw that. a switch 1440 sure as fuck was, as was the wilsonflip, or the dspin when it was invented. seeing almost 30 fucking switch 10s is just boring. i wouldve loved to see a zerospin on that, just to give a big fuck you to espn and the xgames.

fuck yea man! that is progression. it's gotta be done first, probly unstyley. then it progresses into something sick. that switch double back gets done with a 180, next people are doin switch double misty's, then they are doin it wit a grab and some style

i always liked the schrab brothers skiing.
i just think the jumps weren't big enough back then for them to make it look good

just as long as skiing doesnt turn into what freestyle moto-X did. Once one person did a backflip, now everyone has to do one in order to be in the top 10. I use to watch the sport, but now I cant stand it. I hope this does not happen to ski comps.

watch PUSH and then tell me you hate it
you should be banned from skiing for the rest of time for making such an un-intelligent statement

for shure what bushfield did was sick, you're right couse lately skiing is starting to get pretty much covered up, meaning that there are few new and original stuff to do, so nowadays whats happening is the only way to be original is doing huked stuff, but yeah, no style, so yeah kinda fuck the switch double back but it's still a remarkable try at the x-games

I dunno, Rory's switch double backflip in the whistler jump session (push was the movie it appeared in i think) was pretty damn stylie. I didn't see that comp your talking about, but that double backflip he did in push would kill most switch 10's thrown.

From what it sounds like none of you fools has ever even attempted a double in your life. they are not as easy as you all think. Yeah I love stylie shit too. but you guys got to give those guys credit doing doubles. And yes it is possible to make them stylie. so dont knock just, appreciate, cause whether you like it or not its our sport and we should all push each other and support each other, either way its progressing our sport, stylie or if its doubles.

Don't know if this thread is worth my time, but here goes...
I started riding park 10 years ago, when twins first started coming out. Since then, different tricks have gone in and out of style. We've gone back and forth between spins and flips a couple times. Doubles have gone in and out of style. The judging of all these tricks in competition has gone back and forth as well.
A couple observations:
- Those who whine about double flips usually can't do them...
- Those who whine because because everything is about "style" usually have none themselves...
- Different kinds of tricks are hard for different kinds of people. Some are spinners, some are flippers, some are jibbers...
- Usually people want to downplay what other riders are doing so they feel better about their own riding...
That being said, I'm glad doubles are getting some credit again. They're hard to control and you pay if you screw up. (thoughts from personal experience while learning double backs) The moral of the story? Just have fun riding, push yourself, and do the tricks you enjoy doing. They'll probably come back in style in a few years anyway. I'm done...

Dude, hucking and going huge is just as important as style! I love to see stylie 180s and nice smooth swith 7s, but if people would just start doing those and stop the dub flips and the switch 10, 12 and 14 i'd get bored out of my mine. We definitly need but style n balls in this sport

i just meant that was the first comment that actually offered some explanation as to why people think what they think about the new tricks that are pushin the sport

because a hucked 1080 has more style anyway.. God if it weren't for steezebots skiing would suuuuuuck. You sound stupid. Who cares, I would rather see diversity then the same trick, theres no expression in it if everyone does the same thing.

Why can't people just do the tricks that are fun them? Isn't that what skiing is all about, having fun doing what we all love? Some people love the feeling of being upside down, others enjoy spinning around. Do what you want to do, not what others want you to do.
