I believe it's when you jump onto a rail and clear at least one kink.

yeah, gap the first or more kinks of a rail and then slide the rest of that sucka

Wouldnt that just be gap-to-whatever? I've always thought of a disaster as coming up a quarter pipe or wallride, 180ing in the air, and stalling on the coping. THen rolling back in. Maybe that's just from skating.

or on a DFD you gap the DF and land on the D
or on a FDF you just gap the flat.
