You…probably.
If you're an asshole when it comes to skiing, then YOU chap my ass. Simple.
For example, if you are one of the many stuck ups who ski at Bridger bowl and think you are better than everyone because you have been skiing there for 3 or 4 years (your whole college career) or maybe your whole life, i got news for you. Oddly enough, you DON’T own the whole mountain. Weird.
“What’s that? You hike the ridge? WHAT? With BOTH of your feet? Wow, you're better than all these people!”
Fuck that.
I don’t know anyone here on NS and who they are in real life, but when people like KLD rip on others for wearing baggy clothes and skiing the park, that just screams 'fuckbag' to me. What right do you have to judge other people based on what they wear? What if skiing was about how they PERFORM? God, that’d be weird. And I don’t mean what tricks they can or can’t throw, I mean how well they ski, overall. Clothing isn’t part of skiing; style is. If you prefer tight clothes style, cool. Rock it. But what you're doing when you start singling out a group of skiers without even knowing them is just bringing the sport back to the late 80's when only white rich people in tight clothes skied. I don’t know about you but a gay stiffy 360 looks horrible when compared to a slow steezy 1 (its ok KLD, keep those spread eagles sexy) You’re killing all of the progression we the skiers and the pros have worked hard to achieve. Just cuz Bridger bowl jumped on the whole ‘terrain park’ bandwagon late doesn’t make it a sin for people to ski it. If Tanner Hall showed up and came to ski Bridger, I can guarantee that you would take back everything you said and suddenly be hypocrites, making it ok for him to wear baggy clothes.
On another note, what’s the deal with poles here? In my opinion poles serve absolutely no purpose unless you are hiking backcountry (and that’s only to keep balance WALKING). I agree that beginners should ski with poles to learn the motions and everything, but letting go of your poles and skiing without them is just another way to make skiing more interesting and fun. I ski without poles occasionally and every time the whole mountain just stares as if I’m breaking rule number one and I should be taken out and slaughtered. Yet, if you go to any big ski resort (outside of Montana) with many people pushing the sport of skiing, you will see TONS of people skiing POLE LESS. Its part of the progression. So why would anyone here look down on it? Maybe it could be the hundreds of ‘die hard’ skiers here at Bridger who refuse to let change occur. MAYBE. It could also be the fact the Montana in general is late on the news...no, never mind, it is those people. It’s the people stuck in the traditional mindset of what skiing should be.
Dissin on people wearing baggy clothes, dissing those in the park and those with no poles. But oh, when they go home and they watch Teddy Bear Crisis, or WAR, they become obsessed with all these new school skiers pushing the sport in new directions. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the clothing most of them wear (gasp) is usually no smaller than XL. And (god forbid!) they ski in the park! And (oh no) most of them train with no poles.
HOW COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED?!?!
And BAM, suddenly all the ridge rats have their whole world turned upside down. Who’da thunk?
ALL I AM SAYING::
Is that maybe you who talk shit on this new wave of skiing hitting Montana should chill the fuck out and ease the fuck back. SKIING IS CHANGING. Get over it. I know its taken a long time to reach the far unknown world called Bozeman, but yes, its here. And when you rip on all this new change coming, it makes you an asshole. If people aren’t free to ski how, where and when they want, then its no longer freeskiing, the ‘free’ has been taken out of it. You are the Hitler of skiing. Promote your self skiing and continue to ski how you want to, don’t change if you don’t want to. But realize that without change skiing would have been dead in 98’. Realize your place as the dying breed of skiers. Open your mind up to progression within the sport to better it for everyone. Skiing is about having fun and doing what you want on the hill, no one should be judged poorly for their style or taste in skiing.
There, I said it. Now that it’s out there, go ahead and rip on me for writing this (cuz I know you all will). They breed the skulls thick here in MT...I’ve probably offended most of you, but the truth hurts.
