buddy, you can go to your doctor and ask for medication yourself. honestly that last plae you want to be is on the rigs. its fucken gross. Youve def. set the bar to low if your hopes are to land a gig as a rigpig. Here is the life of a rigpig:

1) leave your fam and friends behind for a month or 6 weeks. buy a shitload of booze and cigs before you leave because shit is a) more expensive by the rigs, b) there is nowhere around the rig to get anything.

2) Spend 6 weeks busting your balls for $25.00 and hour plus of course OT since you work like 12hrs+ a day. Unless you have some crazy pull with oil exec. your most likely stuck on a mech rig which will fucken kill you. its the hardest work and you move rig to rig every damn day. you'll quit in less then a week. Now if you can get on a production rig then you will be way better off. You'll stay on the same rig for your entire 6 weeks and the work will still be long but not as hard. Now all you have to watch out for is assholes and drunks who fuck up at work and make it dangerous for everyone. Oh yeah, these guys are lifers and alot of them are dangerous people. If you almost die, brush it off. bringing it up to your boss or trying to talk to another worker about it will get you beat.

3) this is the best part. Leave the rig, head back to town with $15000 dollars in you pocket and you will def. feel like a king. THing is you get back all you buddies are in school or broke and you are going to front the bill for everyone to go out. Believe me this will most def. happen. Youve just spent 6 weeks with the most redneck fuckers you could find and you want to part/get laid/forget about your last 6 weeks. 2 weeks of this and your back off to the rig with $7000 dollars in your bank. next time you come back youll only be able to save 5 thousand.

I have friends who have had the same plans as you eric and they either quit rig work so they could have a life or quit life so they could work on a rig. Its easy to get hooked and they pay is good, but its fucken hazardous and lonely and honest ot god finding a job in the industrial park in Calgary for $15.00 an hour is a way better deal. Honest, there is cold warehouses of chilled groceries just past costco which pay 18 bucks a hour to load semis and sort chilled veges.

rockymountain, i am very aware of the reality behind the work on the rigs here and anywhere else...its horseshit work that makes you want to kill yourself, or somebody else, but you stay on for the money.

difference between what you're talking about and what im actually doing is this...im going with two of my best friends to a production rig in australia. you work 6 days, mind you they're 12hr+ days, but after those 6 days you get 4 days to fuck off and do w/e you want in AUSTRALIA!!

i am definately mainly doing this for the money and im fine with admitting that. i have to pay for my post secondary education if i do plan on going to one in the future. this job presented the opportunity for me to go oversees to a place i've NEVER been, make the money i want, and be with my good friends id be sitting around doing nothing with otherwise.

and as many people say, theres HUGE drug problems on any rig or workplace like them...fortunately, i've been around the shit long enough and know enough about it to stay away...as for spending all my money on other people, fuck that...they all have enough money to do w/e they want with.

thing is, money aint a thing i just go blow away on other people like that...its something i charish heavily...i'm going to buy myself a nice car, and invest the rest of it so that i don't go blowing it all out my ass...being a rigpig isn't my lifelong goal, its a fast way for me to make money doing shti ass work in shit ass conditions, i have other things lined up for when i come back

just so you know.. 12hrs would be a short day on the rigs they are often very under-maned.. resulting in you picking up the slack.. 36hr shifts are not uncommon, but if you are in it for the money then thats a good thing. also chances are you are gonna loose an extremity, most riggers are missing some part or another of their body.

the whole 20 dollars it costs to enter huh? I still went to whistler a couple days before the comp. one of the best days of my life. Amazing pow in the morning, amazing park in the afternoon. Then I blew up my pole in the pipe at the bottom
