Should WB replace my skis?

alright so thursday i was caught in an inbounds avy... not too big but definitely not that small. was only a 10cm day afterall but was definitely windloaded in some places. I was first into diamond bowl from diamond center and did a couple turns and either I or someone above me triggered it, it swept me off my feet pretty fast tumbled me over a small cliff and there i went for another 50 or more feet while it ran out from under me. anyhow my stuff was scattered to shit as u can imagine. long story short... im missing a ski, now theres a service called ski finders up here that charges $100 to find em and theyre paying for that, but i have my doubts right now if theyre gonna find it since we got 15cm yesterday and another 27cm today. these weren't cheap skis either... volkl mantra's. think i should ask them to replace it if it isnt found?

Not gonna happen. It's a bitch, but it isn't W/B's fault that you got caught in an inbounds avalanche. It's a big mtn, you got caught in a bad spot at a bad time. You know the risks when you go out there. We all do. I know it was inbounds, but Diamond Bowl isn't exactly beginner terrain.
Sucks dude, I feel for you, but think about the precedent you'd be setting. "Oh shit, the repeated rail sliding broke my skis, give me new ones, NOW!". "Fuck, I dropped an inbounds 60 footer and now my skis are broken. Can I get new ones?". No way man.

I can't believe WB is even paying for ski finders for you. Losing a ski in powder is a risk we take when we ski. Would you make a golf course replace a ball you hit into the woods? Seems really silly to me that you would even suggest the company pay for something that's all just part of the game.

I lost my cell phone up there last year, do you think W/B will pay to have people find it for me? seriously though, cuz that would be sweet.

well really, in-bounds avies are not supposed to be able to happen at any time, that's the ski patrol's job to make sure about that. So I think they're responsible, its different from losing something in powder or breaking things on a rail, the fact that they did not bomb this part is the reason why you lost your ski.

People like you should not only not be allowed to ski, but should be shot on sight just to keep Canada cool.

ok fine avies are not unavoidable in any case, shit happens and thats it.
its not like i'd make a big deal out of it, if they say no they say no but i think they are partly responsible.
then you ^ might be right, this is kind of the same as suing the mountain for getting injured, which i find ridiculous.

so all of u are saying if you were in my position u wouldnt feel this way? im not saying they should.. i just wanted to see what ppl would say... and i guess ive got my answer though i think paying for ski finders is totally justified... in bounds avy's of this size are NOT part of the game. if u can't have the terrain safe enough to ski then it shouldnt be open period. its why they do avy control to prevent this type of stuff from happening. i COULD have been seriously injured as could have anyone in this situation. i bet if this happened a lot of ppl this wouldnt be a question of my ski, as of what lawyer to hire... which isnt my goal here at all... im just bummed out i lost a ski that I really loved and id only been riding on for a month...

wow erica, you seem to be pretty "Pro-Intrawest" these days...they payin you good or what?

It doesn't have anything to do with being "pro intrawest." I just don't like to see the USA style "it's your fault not mine so settle or I'll sue" mentality happening anywhere, especially our ski hills.

You should just be happy that you didn't get hurt. Your ski will turn up....in the Summer, but it will turn up. Skiing crazy shit, you def. know what the consequences are for you and/or your equipment. Ya, big slides shouldn't be happening in-bounds, but hell, it's people like you and I that demand resorts open crazier terrain sooner...you can't have your cake and eat it too.

so you want them to bomb the whole mountain everytime it snow? cause skiing untouched deep powder on a real steep run isn't fun for you?

Boy, is this ever a great big misconception.
It is not patrols job to make sure that "inbound avalanches never happen" because that job would be impossible.
No, the job of the pro patrol is to minimize the risk of avalanches to an acceptable level to ensure the safety of the customers while maximizing their enjoyment"
Otherwise you would only be allowed to ski on groomed runs.
I am not negating that the slide happened and quite possibly posed significant hazards to his health, and that the presence of this slide could possibly be construed as a failure in maintaining an acceptable level of safety, however every single morning the avalanche forecast is up online, in the lodges and on the radio.
As for what I would do in this case, well what I would not have done is come on here and inquired/solicited advice from strangers. I would have made a decision based on my own feelings about the event and Whistler/blackcombs involvement in it.
Just remember, they read this too.

I don't think they should, but you could possibly find enough points to bring to them to convince them to pay for it.
