This is how i see it. Freestyle is hitting huge kickers in the backcountry, park, and other places. You dont always have the weather or conditions to do this, so you go and hit rails, jibs, boxes...things that don't need the best conditions. But when you base most of your skiing on it? Thats almost straying from the real freestyle skiing. Its ok to do it, and incorperate it with your skiing, but im confused when i see a kid kill it on the jibs, but wont even hit the jumps.

nah he's got a point, its to bad that you can either jib, rail slide, or hit kickers and you are considered freestyle.
but everyone has to start some where before their all around good

douchbag! Not everyone has backcountry and crazy jumps and terrain on their mountain, and the park is the place to be.

there are so many threads like this, just fuckin let them do what they want. i ski lots of park, but if it snows, you will find me skiing trees. i also hit backcounty kickers now and then. so if people want to ski park all the time, let them. its not hurting you any, and they are probably learning new tricks and having fun, so if you dont like it, dont worry about it and do your own thing

I agree Fresstyle skiing needs rules. if you do this its freestyle but if you do that its not. lets get the USSA they can help us with this.

Skiing is what you make it. If you live somewhere it snows a lot, and you like powder, you will not be in the park when it is dumping. I ski the same place as switch_9, and we have been getting nuked this year (Big Mtn).
I love to ski powder, but at the end of the day when you have to look hard to get pow, I will often switch to my park skis and hit some jibs and stuff in the park. I enjoy it, because it is part of my skiing.
I really stress that skiing is what you make it. If you want to ski park great, if you want to ski pow and never go in the park, thats swell. I don't care if you are an aerialist, xc skiier, snowblader, skiier, snowboarder, whatever, it is what you make it and we really should not be shitting on what other people are doing for fun.

WTF is this all about man!! I can't ski good in the park I just realy started it. But who are u to tell me what to do or not to do!!! Skiing is the best thing that has ever happened to me man!! The mountains are so relaxt and hitting jumps feels just soo good!! Although I suck at it! So respect the sport and everybody who does it! U can say shit about people when they ski in your lines mass up jumps etc... First take a look at yourself and what u expect from the sport, ohh fuck man!!!

freeskiing is skiing free, so there should not be any rules on how you ski, if some kid, just does urbans because he likes to, he is a freeskier, Free skiing is about doing what you love to do and not giving a rats ass about what people want you to do. If some racer decides he wants to do an intre run switch or butter all the way down then he is freesking, or if he decides two fuck the gates and just straghtline down he is freeskiing. If some little kid likes two go straight over the boxes in the terrain park, he is still freeskiing no mater what some skiier in baggy cloths says, especially if that skier is telling him not two.
Peace

for any1 that doesnt live out west or in some nice place in europe, we cant hit backcountry, wen we first learn to ski, we ski the rest of the mtn n glades n such, but after skiing for a few years and not being able to go bigger on just a regular trail, we move to the park, where we can go bigger and there rnt any real limits unless ur a pro
so u go do what u want and us that dont live where it snows a ton and dont have 100's of cliffs to huck will go ski what we have, which is a park

reasons why you are wrong:
freeskiing was and is about bucking the trend of super strict regs and doing what was fun and what people considered to be cool.
freeskiing was and is about progressing the sport to place that most people do not think is possible.

The term freestyle has no exact definition as it applys to skiing. Any one person may define freestyle differently. Some people like jibs and aren't a big fan of jumps, myself included. I actually take offense from the fact that some people dont consider what I like to do freestyle skiing. Also, what about people like me who ski in hte midwest? In case you havent noticed we aren't blessed with a lot fo kickers and powder and shit like that, we have park.
