A Middle East WWIII will never happen. Political, economic, and social climates are not in any state for such an event.

They fight amongst each other...and have been doing so for thousands of years. The only reason that area has ever been united is because conquerors subdued the region with a large military. While that is the case with much of the rest of the world, other places have now learned to cooperate economially. A united Middle East would last 10 minutes unless they are physically forced.

Islam is the biggest ball-and-chain of that region. As a result of Muslim beliefs, most of those nations are fundamentalist isolationists. It's a typical "old world" way of thinking and is very outdated in the modern world.

They collectively have virtually no economy. They could not financially support any large scale war. They have oil...they also have...uh...*crickets chirping*. Their combined GDP is still smaller than the US. They would run out of money in heartbeat.

On a military scale they would flat out lose. The whole of the Middle East could not defeat the US in a war. Let alone the US and Europe combined. Hell, they can't even kick out Israel. In fact, Israel has knocked them around several times.

It would be more likey to see a war with China, though thats also highly unlikely.

Quinny (like in most circumstances) is absolutely right. It is in nobody's best interest to have a massive war like that. Just for the record the Saudis could do more damage to the US than could any bomb. They could pull out their trillion dollars invested in the US economy. That would literally cripple the country.

Before anything got out of hand, the UN would step in and prevent things from getting out of control. ...and you think rebuilding Iraq is hard... yeah rebuild the whole middle east.

Smart people don't screw around over there i nthe middle east. Like quinny said, they have been fighting for thousands of years.. and they aren't about to stop now. Islam honostly may be the largest political and social force in the world. This whole thing is just getting rediculous.

The middle east is the shithole of the world and the people who live there are the wet shit of the world. Without oil, they would have no economy there would be more starvation in the middle east than there is in Africa. As we have discussed in previous threads, since the development of Islam, the people in the middle east haven't had anything to add to human civilization in the way of culture, inventions, or discoveries. The idea of a good education in the middle east is bobbing ones head up and down in an attempt to memorize verses of the koran. Also, in order to be competitive in a very large scale war, you need to be able to produce your own weapons, not just buy outdated weapons left over from the soviet union and china. Nobody in the middle east has produced good weapons since the persian empire.

i actually saw a very interesting documentary from the BBC about how Turkey was one of the key starting points of the Renaissance. Their arts, culture and litterature made it's way to France and Italy, and it almost single handedly sparked the renaissance. Was a very interesting documentary.

You're only partly right.

Saudi Arabia does not have anywhere close to a trillion dollars invested in the US economy. That economy can only generate about 300 billion dollars a year, whereas the US generates nearly 12 trillion. In total, the Middle East probably doesn't generate more than 2 trillion dollars.

The UN is absolutely worthless at stopping large scale conflicts. If two nations want to go to war...they WILL go to war. When it comes down to basics, the UN are mostly bureaucratic paper pushers.

Islam is NOT the largest political and social force in the world. Money talks a lot more than religion. I should also note that there are twice as many Christians as there are Muslims in the world.

But about that last statistic, it ALL depnds on what you concider christian, be it self proclaimed or actual practicing. For example, France is supposedly 82% christian. But only 2% of that actually goes to church every sunday. And not everyone on church is actually christian. etc. I would daresay that the proclaimed muslims actually are practicing muslims, because of how that religion works. The christians, well...

They have always had a reasonably large agricultural economy. How do you think Babalon, Carthage, Macedonia, Persiana, Asseria, and Rome became such powerful and wealthy kingdoms? They have actually contributed a fair amount to the world after the development of Islam. Remember, the Middle East was thriving when Europe was in its Dark Ages. It is true that their innovations have been severely lacking in the last 300 years. You should be careful to not overgeneralize. It's also spelled "Qu'ran," not "Koran."

hmmm, I think someone is a little undereducated. Actually the middle east was further a head in areas like math and science than Europe was in and after the middle ages. Like the other dude said, historieans can trace the earliest roots of the renaisance back to Turkey. The knowledge gained after the crusades, that the crusaders brought back to europe, really propelled development in Europe.

Modern Algebra has roots in the middle east. And actually the word "Algebra" is derived from the arabic term "al-jabr".

There are a lot of other important things that came out of the middle east, but I have to go to class now. Sorry, to break it to you... the shithole has influenced the world...

Greater Western Europe is generally a poor example. People in France and England are typically rather vague in their religious beliefs, more so than most predominantly Christian nations. Even though when people think of the "Christian World" they think about the US and Europe. What seems to elude many people is that the "Christian World" also include the vast majority of North, Central, and South America. Latin Americans are very devout in their religious beliefs. Other parts of the "Christian World" include much of Africa and Oceania. The only reason Muslims seem to be a larger force is because their religious beliefs are much easier to manipulate for violent purposes. It's a common misconception.

About the agriculture, yes. But, the population now is far to large to be supported by their own agriculture. Without their oil money and oil for food problems, they would starve to death. Also, koran is also an appropriet spelling of the word. It can be spelled either way, as referenced here- http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=koran

Carthage is also in north Africa, not he middle east.

Algebra was developed before islam came about in the 7th century. So far, all of the things you have said except the sparking of the renaisance were pre islam. The sparking of the renaisance would have been due to leftover developments from Rome and into the Holy Roman empire, which was not Islamic, also while Istanbul was still Constantinople, and in a time when Turkey wasn't wholly controlled by islam. I probably did overgeneralize a bit, but I personally believe the religion of islam has acted like a "ball and chain" to the middle eastern region, as most of the good things that have come out of the middle east happened before the 7th century when islam came about.

Quinny, by the UN I meant the US. The UN does get a lot done preventing this crap though. They are very Bureaucratic, but they are very involved in maintaining relationships. You and I both know that if there was a major all out war, we would be on that shit in no time flat. I mean hell, when Iraq moved into Kuwait we were on that shit in no time.

Yes I did forget money. But you also say that there are more christians in the world than muslims... BUT in modern times, has christianity completely dominated a region of the world. I'd say that Islam has much more of a dominent hold over people than does christianity. Even in the "most christian" places on earth like latin America, Christianity doesn't dominate their lives like Islam dominates. There are definitely a lot more extreme radical muslims than there are radical christians. Do you think it's a coincidence that they have been waring over there throughout the history of the religion? Not to mention that conflicts always involve God. Now I am aware that not all muslims are radical. Infact the vast majority are perfectly fine. But you don't find many "Christmas and Easter Muslims". So you're right with money being the biggest factor... but I'd say islam comes in second.

The city of Carthage is indeed on the northern coast of Africa. Rome is also in Italy. Macedonia is northeast of Greece. Whats your point? If you studied history you will know that Carthage was a Phoenician colony whose primary trade came from the Middle East. Hell, the city itself was built and inhabited by the people of Tyre (Lebanon).

However, in this case I was gracious enough not to point out that you were wrong with you response to the spelling of Qur'an or Koran in my original post by simply offering you a link to dictionary.com. You corrected me with Qu'ran. It is Qur'an or Koran, not Qu'ran. My original post was correct and because of your arrogance you were too cocky to admit you were wrong.
