My advice is to try and do everything in your power to prevent you from snowplowing backwards and riding on your inside edges. I usually only look over one shoulder and really exagerate my staggered ski so I can look over the one shoulder, its better for riding backwards into jumps aswell.
I know this sounds really gay but it works if your having a trouble and is actaully kinda hard.
the day iwas learing how to ride switch comfortably a gruop of racers passed by with thier poles behind thier necks and arms draped over it (jesus carryign the cross style). Anyways i tried this switch and helped tremendously both with spotign turns and keeping skis straight
start out like regular skiing start small but then go bigger, at firt when ridding backwards you should V-Bomb (backwards snowplow) instead of carving, but you will get better eventually.
Start with skiing every run outside of the park switch.
You know how when you ski forwards and you carve your outside ski goes forward and your inside kinda stays back? Do the same switch. Look over your shoulder of the direction you are carving and keep your outside ski further downhill than your inside. When you get to the end of your carve even your feet out, look over the other shoulder, and switch your feet the other way. You will now be carving backwards. For hitting jumps or rails you'll want to keep looking over the same shoulder but you can still carve by changing the positioning of your feet. Just practice ALLLLLL the time and it will come. Skiing backwards is cool.
