hey boys, any advice, ive got some cash saved up and im in the mood to buy a nice, 5 bill range, camera, i was thinking nikon n80 or cannon eos 7, any recomondations

if you've never used an slr before i'd recomend the nikon f65 which is really user friendly and can take some ill shots.

how much money do you have, Nikon make good cameras, so get a good camera and a really nice lens, thats what makes the pictures look better.

I you serious about photography, but an old style manual Nikon SLR like an FM3. If you just want to take crap pictures with a nice camera go for the N(F)80. But whatever you do, get Nikon.

why would the n80 produce crap pictures if i knew how to use it, people also say that the lenses on the cannons are better, any opinon

Automatic Cameras such as the N80 are too easy to use them. People who start with these cameras often sacrifice a lot of creative control over to the camera in order to produce fool proof and fool pleasing photos. Having a manual camera forces you the learn about the smallest of variables, allowing maximum control, at the price of dicipline. Look at pictures taken with a 4 by 5 or 8 by 10 compared to one taken with a point and shoot.

i completly agree with you, however i rather have an automatic camera which i can flip into manual when i feel like being creative or auto when im just takin a picture of friends or something, you know what i mean

I would highly recomend the canon Ti. Its better than alot of 35mm slrs at that price range..it beats out nikon minolta pentax sigma.
It was reviewed in popular photography..its the best handling SLR today it just all around good...i would recommend it highly.

get the Nikon D100 its a sweet digital. and you can take tons of pics without worrying about wasting film, plus instant results. it really pricy though. if u have the money go for it. and its like 6 or some insane megapixel amount.

digi cams are getting better but they are either way too expensive or no where near as good as a film camera. The body doesnt matter as much as the lenses. If you arent going to be doing sequences go with an old manual camera get a couple good lenses. I never use autofocus on my camera...I usually shoot totally manual just like the speed and the ability to do sequences. Canon are a better system than nikons I think...but thats personal opinion. I think you get more for your money plus the lenses are a lot better.

I never use any auto shit on my camera eathier...i hate that shit...
but ya get a decent body but the lenses are the most important...i would highly recomend a film camera though...like the canon elan 7 or the eos 3--

My Nikon FE has an auto exposure mode, and it hence as an aperture priority mode. And its metal, not plastic, so uhhhn!!

Nah, Nikon has better lenses than Canon, ask any pro, but Canon has some fancy bodies; crazy AF and such. Find some pros to talk to.
