I was just wondering if anyone has been up at big sky sessioning the park. do you guys know if they have the superpipe up and shaped? How are the jumps looking? i would like to know tonight because if the park stinks i'm gonna go to moonlight and hike for some pow pow. thanks guys, later
I was there two weeks ago. There park was closed for fixing. THe pipe was cut and they were icing it down the day that i left. As for the rest they had a stair set up with a down box and two big handrails. They also had a huge jump, pro. like a 50 footer and mabey a little bigger one. But like i said it was closed when i was there. Its all changed by now im sure. Dont know if this helped at all but at least it gives you an idea.
compared to what it could be, it's kinda lame. They have like 10 rails just sitting by their shack that haven't even been touched, that could be in use right now. I dunno, I don't think it will be worth it for a while.
damn, i've been really wanting to polish off some tricks up there... well crap, if they would put an update on their site with pictures and shit i wouldnt have to wonder. i'm not a big rail person but i was hoping they had some nice medium size jumps to learn some new stuff.
thanks for the info anyways guys. i may have to try it just for the hell of it.
I was looking over in that direction from the ridge on Moonlight and it looked pretty bleak in the park. They had a pretty good sized table toward the top, then it looked like a down-rail of some sort after that, then........random piles of snow. The pipe hadn't been cut as of thursday, and it doesn't seem like they're in any sort of hurry to get anything done. I'll be up there tomorrow, so I'll post an update then.
I jus got back from the park today, and Big Sky is choking on a large set of hairy balls this year. It is almost Febuary, and no superpipe. Side by side 20 and 50 footer (slow inrun), and some pretty lame rails. They have 6 park managers and tons of rails and stuff and they have had 2 months and have done nothing!!!
man that sounds terrible. i can't believe they are slacking so bad this year. even last year it was somewhat decent and they didnt have hardly any snow. i mean wtf guys, thats BS. they need to get their act together.
^Yeah thats whats really screwy about the whole thing. I only go to big sky a couple times a year, and last year I went about this time and I remember the park being pretty cool.
It seems like the park crew just kinda rides around "testing" their features. I see the occasional raking of the jump, but no building or anything like they were doing last year. Last year one guy would start putting a rail in in the morning and promise it to be done after lunch and it would be. It just kinda seems like their aint shit happening.
I was up there today and it looked pretty bleak. There were a few small rails and a weird 4 tables in a row setup in the swifty park, nothing out of the ordinary really. There were also a couple jumps built in the natural halfpipe that were HORRIBLE, one of them had the potential to be mediocre but they dug out the landing to ensure that it was completely flat and icy. The setup at the top of the ambush park is the same, with one new down rail toward the middle part being the exception. And as for the superpipe, it still hasn't been cut, although it looked like the park crew was standing around measuring it? I don't know, but they really need to get off their asses and get something done, at this point the park is pretty weak.
That's really pretty dumb. If their not going to bother cutting the pipe, or waiting until the end of the season to do it, the might as well have spent the money on a halfway decent park staff.
well i was up at big sky today and it was pretty much as described. the ambush park was getting some work done on it. they were cutting the pipe. yep, i said it, they were cutting the pipe!!! they still have a long way to go to get it really ready but at least they are shaping it. there were also a couple piles of snow where they are probably going to put some jibs. i'm wondering tho, are they going to put together a jump line or is the one they have it? because theres only a couple other spots they could put a jump. anyway, it was crappy snow, but it was skiing so that made it worthwhile.
It says on their website under "Terrain Park" that they're going to have the pipe ready in the next couple days. Seeing as how it takes them months to update the website, we'll see how that goes.
