Halfpipes becoming too Big?

What do all you guys think about the size of halfpipes now? It seems to me that some are becoming to big. Mammoth and Breckenridge are the ones that stick out to me. I skied both Vail and Break over the weekend and i noticed a much better scene at Vail's pipe w/ lots of people busting it huge. But at Breck's hardly anyone was getting decent air. In my opinion a 15 foot wall is fine. it's going too far

i think the only reason people would be going bigger in the 15 footer is because its way less intimidating than charging into a 20 foot wall. no, ive never been in a pipe with 20 foot walls, but i would imagine the speed you would have to carry would be pretty crazy... and pretty scary for mere mortals...

True, Id much rather hit a smooth 15-17 footer but the bigger the pipe the easier it is to go bigger. Breck and mammoth cater more to pros, which is why you see bigger hits, techier rails and huge pipes in those parks.

I personally like bigger pipes, you get more speed when you drop into them, and then you just let it shoot you out. Its a great feeling launching up and looking down on all of your friends standing on the edge beneath you

breck's pipe is real intimidating. the walls are so fucking huge! and steamboat's 645-ft-or-however-long-it-is pipe?? fucking ridiculous. it also helps when you have people at your resort who actually know how to cut and maintain a pipe.

see i love steamboat's pipe. perfect walls nice and long w/ a qp at the end. it's perfect. but i see both sides of this arguement i just don't see the size of breck's pipe going to use. a smaller one would be much better all around

from what Ive heard not many people are hitting mammoth's 'super-duper' pipe because it is too big and the 6 feet of vert is a little too much. Yeah it might be cool to say you have ridden a 22' pipe but I'd rather ride something that I could bust out of, not barely make it out of the lip.

** I personally believe skiing is gaining soul. It's great to see racers ripping the pipe and boarders crossing over to skiing. If anything is taking away from the soul of skiing, it's the skiers who are in it for the wrong reasons, and the ones who are in chat rooms bagging on other people's style when they should be skiing **

Jackson's pipe is like 19 feet right now, it is hella fun. it is harder to boost out of than last years (15 feet), but its way more fun.

i agree with the guy's who like the bigger pipes. I hate skiing in a pipe that doesn't have decent tranny's because it's too small. the bigger pipe's may be intimidating for a while but at least you won't be flat-landing everything.

it scares off the yetis too. the people that want to learn to ride it can just do small hits.

i think that a pipe shouldn't be less than 15 and nor more than 20. i ride outta steamboat and the walls are 17-18, and i think that is perfect. with it being 670 ft long is sick too cuz you get the most out of your riding and you can always find sick hits even on a bad day. i rode brecks pipe and it sucked cuz they don't know how to use the new dragon...the left wall was wrecked and the right was oververted, and they had just cut it!

yeah i agree that they are getting too big, last year i skied at sunday rivers, they were saying the walls were 22 feet high, and just looking at the fucking thing i almost shit my pants, but after riding that pipe for a week and then going back to tremblant i owned that pipe cause it looked like a mini pipe to me
What the hell were they doing with a car on the moon?... havent they gone far enough?

a 15 foot pipe is pretty good. Think of the jumps you could make with the snow you wouldnt have to use for the pipe.

both size pipes have their benefits, at okemo we got about a 14 foot and a 20 foot. the big pipe is real smooth and you can easily boost it, but its intimidating to try new tricks, the lil one is nice for new things
