okay so we have had shit for snow this year, well actually we have had good snow just the rain ruined it all. but my point is that my school WAS going to be skiing mount graylock in massachusets, but we are reconsidering and think about going up to tuckermans!! i am all for this but i was wondering if anyones skied it or if anyone knows what the best cute to hit is?
yea ive skied there a few times, hilmans is always fun and so is the headwal. just hike up and have a look around and at the avalache danger and you will be be able to ski what ever looks good that day
tucks is a blast, the headwall is fun...but like the others have said, check the avalance conditions that day and just take a look before you do anything.
If you're gonna do it, do it in April. It's warm, but there is still a lot of snow, and it is a lot safer. Headwall is pretty ridiculous, and the left gulley is cool too.
Tuckermans is the best place to go after all the lifts have shut down. I went there during easter weekend with a couple of friends last year, and we got this amazingly sunny, warm day. The hike is a little tough with the huge backpack...but totally worth it once you get up there. Its like out west. However, i heard that the snow melted on the trail that you ski down to get to the base, and that ski ride down was a lot easier then hiking out after all the hiking to the top.
i just went up there this past weekend, it rocked. check out the pictures i posted in the 'big mountain' section to get a nice updated view.
and we should try to get some new england NSers to all go and meet up there sometime!
yea i plan to go up easter weekend MAYBE and or the next weekend. then again in june to say i did it if theres snow, drive up, and ski down and ski the upper feilds
actually sean, these 2 guys skied tucks every single day over one year (365 days)... minimum 10 turns required to make the dya official and they did it which is fuckin sweet...
How do you think it will be in late may? Because I gotta wait until my shoulder heals before I can even think of hiking it and that's the earliest I can ski.
i skied tucks last year and it was amazing we skie the left gully, it was kinda narrow and rocks tumble down when your hiking, but ive heard the face was the best and thats were im going this year, thats were i would recomend, but check the website http://www.tuckerman.org/
Drop the headwall rocks and shit, and if you get there late enough in the season, a crevase has formed so if you don't hit them with enough speed you fall in, its some motivation to go fast enough. Make sure to talk to the rangers at hojos, they have the latest and best conditions report, and if they tell you to avoid it, avoid it; you aren't missing out on anything good.
