So my dad got this free laptop from this dude who he worked with. And my dad bought all the soft ware for it and stuff but theres one problem theres no cd drive. to me it looks pretty new. I think its an hp. but ill look later. So I was wondering if theres away to load the sttuff one there? Like an external cd drive. Any help would be appriciated. I want to use it mostly for editing movies and such. Im also kinda slow when it comes to how computers go together so make it simple. all the fancy letters get me confused. thanks
new my butt. that thing, my friend, is a pentium III notebook, i'd say circa 1999. it's not worth setting everything up to edit movies, cuz it'll run like crap. plus, i don't see any usb or firewire ports for the video camera.
you can get a card that goes into the comp for usb and firewire. are you doing hard core editing with special effects and stuff or are you just putting clips together? a piii will work fine for just putting clips together
well, i know that. but who wants to go out and buy more peripherals? and true, a pIII will be fast in enough, but video editing is a more RAM intensive process, so processor speed doesn't matter much. so with the thing being so old, it's bound to have slow ram, and rendering anything will take forever.
