Kinda crazy, i was just in downtown honolulu... and stopped in the quiksilver store... and for some reason, the had the new roxy quiksilver skis. (made by dynastar) I forgot that rossi owned them too, and now quiksilver owns rossi. Im very interested to see whats to come from them... possibly worth holding your breath.
yeah mauana kea, its looks pretty sweet. its just like late season corn skiing but it would still be awesome to do. You have do drive up, then you ski down and a buddy drives down, then you can switch or if your friend is a sucker he keeps driving
Yeah when I was in hawaii over thanksgiving break i was in quicksilver and they had the roxy skis, boots and some poles, it was crazy. they even had on a pair of skis a sold tag. i started laughin, who honestly would buy skis in hawaii
I used to live on Oahu - I went to the top of the mountain once, but never skiid there. They didn't used to get enough snow to ski every year, so it's unpredictable, and the top is more or less volcanic rock, so they say you shouldn't use skis that you want to use again.....And unless it's changed, you "can't" drive rental cars to that part of the island.
Some of you asking is it worth the trip are morons!! NO you dont plan a ski trip to Hawaii u plan a vacation and take one day out of it to hit the volcano just to say u skied HA...Its not like ur gunna be shreddin pow and massive BC booters!!
going from 0 to 130000 is tough on your lungs in just a day. Astronomers spend a night at some level to accomodate to the altitude before going to the telescope. And it's the tallest mountain on the planet if you count the underwater distance.
Yeah, unless it's changed, the rental car contracts say you can't take the cars on the road you need to take to get there. We drove it (didn't see it until it was too late) and it was kinda rough, but not that bad. We drove up to the observatory on top (it was late september and "cold as shit"), but that was probably the 40s or 50s. (There's nothing there (uless it's changed) except an observatory and rocks - lots of rocks......
We checked into the skiing, and the way it worked (this was in the early 90s) was that you could get packages where they would drive you up in a 4-wheeler, and rent you skis. They said they only get enough snow to do it every 3-4 years, but if you're on the island of Hawaii, it would be worth asking about (if it's winter...). Having said that, winter isn't the best time of year weather-wise to visit Hawaii if you want to hit the beaches (can be cloudy for a couple of weeks at a time.)
i just came back from maui and i went up a 10 000 ft. volcanoe (extinct) and they said they'd closed the roads in the past because of sno, once there was 6 ft!!
Island Snow - its a snowboard shop with a couple of locations, the main one on the Waikiki strip I think...I always come back to the mainland with a bunch of their dope gear and people are always bewildered by a snowboard shop in Hawaii
