Breck was sweet today, I got to ride the Imperial Express for the first time... A tourist trap, but still I used to HATE that hike. The snow was nice and chalky up there. Then we went down to the park where some kids were killing it, spinning both ways big and whatnot.. it was fun to watch. Either way, good shit.
that hike is so short, it's sweet.....for some reason though when i dropped the cornice last week i landed on the only spot that wasn't soft pow. ten foot drop to unexpected boilerplate. it was loud.
its the same with mountain chief sometimes. a couple weeks ago i saw like 4 snowlerbladers. and the storm king too. thier are a shitload of gapers there. its frustrating
somebody told me that they remove the chairs every night. but yeah it sucks that there's only like ten chairs on the whole lift. you skate out and wait like a whole minute for the next one to come it's kind of amusing
Someone needs to teach a class around here about crowd management at the resorts...
The fewer chairs is a good thing for an area like that, if you had more chairs you'd have more gapers/minute offloading at the top, which would mean more gapers/minute on hill itself. now you have your queue of people at the bottom, out of each others way, which sucks for lift line time, but for everything else it is good.
yeah there are really high winds up there and if there were more chairs there would be more surface area for the wind to catch and the cables could get messed up from all the blowing/swinging chairs or the towers could be damaged/blown over. The good news is that imperial can accomadate 6 pack chairs and they might install them in the next few years. At the same time, it would be crazy up there if there were more people being brought to the top at a time, so I don't mind it right now.
to clear this up for people who dont live in breck....
when they first bought the chairs for the lift, breck actually purchased 45 of them. They are only using 15 this year because they overestimated the wind speeds. The windiest part of the ride is actually the bottom, the middle and top are great. Breckenridge anticipated only using the chair 30 days per winter. HA, well they relized they fucked up with only 15 chairs on it right now, so there will be more next year. And they do take the chairs off at night.
i dislike breck now, the snow is always icy as shit when i'm there, horseshoe had no decent snow in it, and neither did the rest of the mtn, the park is great, but i would not reccomend the mtn, unless you are going for the park, atleast until they get some dam snow
I don't have issues with the snow at Breck except that it has a tendency to get blown off up high. My biggest issues with Breck are that it is really hard to find sustained steeps and the fact that there are pretty much no good top to bottom runs. I guess that is what happens when the lower half of the mountain is all but flat. Don't get me wrong, I like the place, or I wouldn't spend 3 days a week there. I ski it more than any other mountain.
that is because you dont know shit about breck. We are having a nearly epic year. Horse shoe has good snow on it, you just have to know where to ski it. There is plenty of snow, and plenty of very good shit to ski. So until you acutally know what you are talking about, dont comment on it. Fucking front rangers man.
shut it man...i know horseshoe up and down...if you want to talk trash to front rangers, i'll let you know that two happen to be pretty much pro, and i do know breck, there was a slide to the right side in contest...it was icy the entire center of the bowl may have well have been groomed w/ snow makers up there, and cucumber was bumped out pure ice, its a bowl...you can see every spot to ski it, its common sense...not to mention i said the day i was there the snow was horrible...i've had locals show me around...i know my shit...fuckin cocky locals
quite comical indeed, my middle school aged friend. Sicne you think you know what you are talking about, rethink your statement. Contest did not slide, it has been quite some time since that shit slid. You are thinking of cucumber bowl, specifical from lulu to tower 18 that slid. Soo once again YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. If you would like to come ski with us, let me know and i will show you shit at breck that not many others have skiied. Very unique features, along with underground shacks and hobbit holes to smoke it. From the surface, breck isnt that cool. Ya gotta know where to find the goods. And you cant do that unless you ski here nearly every day.
nah, you don't need to ski there everyday, you just can't take the same run over and over... btw, didn't they tear down the shack west of E chair in the trees?
