A guide in fernie was buried today while checking a weather station..the slide (as i've heard) came from above. She was rescued by an avalanche dog...though her condition remains unknown to the public. She's a friend of mine, i know this much, but i don't even know who it is.
It's insane out there...size 4.0 naturals (that size will demolish your house as though it were made of matchsticks) are ripping out everywhere leaving 4m (12ft) crowns. 80% of the mountain was closed today. If you live in an area that's getting these storm cycles...be extremly careful..go beyond just playing it safe...these 4.0s in fernie are running well below tree line.

To elaborate:
She was checking the weather at a weather station. Weather stations are situated in places that NEVER get hit by avalanches. It is situated on a hill surrounded by a mature forest. The area above the station was bombed with 5 charges on thursday night releasing several large (size 4) avalanches (i watched them do it). In a period of 36 hours, enough snow fell to create another (unconfirmed) size 4 which, for the first time in 20 years, hit the sunnyside weather station, exactly as she was checking the weather. Her snowmachine was untouched, idling, 10ft from the debris feild.
The randomness of this event is beyond shocking. It could have been anyone. It was a routine morning task that takes 3 minutes to do. 3 fucking minutes...and in that exact 3 minutes, the seemingly impossible happened and took her life.
so fucking random. She did nothing wrong, took no chances, the risk should have been less then crossing the street.
