Well today was my first time i ever skiied i used my cousins 4frnt 147s i think...he used my snowboard. It was so fun i told him i wouldnt learn with snowplowing and i did.I rode em like water skis and just carved..But i cant stop like you(the ice skate sort of stop) well any pointers for the "cut" stop??I just want you skiiers to know that skiing is the funnest ever!and it was only some smaller run...Peace
nice sounds like you're having fun. My advice would try not to skip to many steps, like skipping snowplowing is fine. But if you try and move too fast you just develope ugly habit. But have fun with it, and welcome to skiing.
To "Hockey stop" turn to whichever side you want to stop. Example: if you want to stop with your left side foreward, put your weight to your left foot and take soe weight off your right foot, and lean a little to your right side
ya definately take your time learning skiing. Learn how to carve good and just ski all around, get a little experience in everything before you start doing a lot of park.
for now ill just rip the park on my snowboard ill wait a year or so till i do anything with skis in the park.Although i do have 30-50 more times ill be going considering im 10 min away from the mountain...
thats exactly what not to do when you are learning to stop.
When I gave kids lessons at my highschool I found it was easiest, to let them stand perpendicular to the slope. Then have them slide down and stop perpendicular, so they learn edge control. If any of you guys are instructors you'll know what I mean for sure.
Now that is the very basic thing. Once you learn to control your weight, then you can just work on slowly carving and turning 90 degrees to stop.
Well i can carve not that bad...I watched other people who where going down the same trail and they didnt seem to do it that well...I Did learn to stop sideways but it was a bitch and i couldnt do it all the time....Im riding the skis like its waterskis so i think that i want to carve and not cut.
i hve no fucking clue what my feet do when i ski,all i notice is where ny edges are. When im skiing the skis become part of me and turning and everything is natural.Im more comfortable skiing than walking.
I mean there are different styles of skiing. Like most people will tell you to bend your knees and lean forward... but then you look at guys like bode miller and he leans back a little and owns. Just get comfortable with posture, bend your knees. Idk if you're going to rock it gorilla style or not, but just ski with what seems to work best for you and whats comfortable. And I mean this shit comes in time. Don't worry, thats not bad for your first day out on the slopes. Just keep at it. If you really want to learn, I'd recommend take a few lessons, just so you don't get into bad habits and what not.
yea my cousin was on the side of me with my snowboard on telling me what to do but he kept face planting so i just went on my own for awhile.I always watch the other skiers around me. im broke as hell to get lessons haha.
