Digital will be easier to learn.
Give us some information, what you want to shoot, your budget ect. You could buy a point and shoot for $200, or you could spend $8000 for a SLR. It all depends on your needs.

If you have access to a darkroom, start with film for sure. You'll learn so much more about film and printing and how everything works together. If you don't have access to a darkroom, start digi, cause it'll be better than sending your film in every time you want it developed and printed.

If you end up shooting digitally, make sure you actually learnthe fundamentals of photography and not just rely on the auto mode. Digital can be a good way to learn, as you can immeadiately see what you're doing wrong and learn from it, instead of having to send your film in all the time.
