I need a camera. It would be my first high quality camera although I have been using cameras pretty much all my life. I want to buy one from someone on NS if anyone has one. I really want a DVX100 or VX2000 but will settle for a VX1000 or something else. I need a camera extrememly bad seeing as season already started. I will aslo buy a pro tripod if anyone has one.
check out the cannon xl1s. It is the older version of the xl2. It is not compact, but produces a wonderful image. It is much more advanced than the gl2. I use both the gl2 and the xl1s on a daily basis, and the xl is awesome.

The xl2 is about 4500 new, so you can probably find a good deal on a used xl1s.
for a lot of reasons... it has the option of the mark 1 death lens which is the widest and dopest lense ever made, it has 12 bit sound which sounds nicer on rails, it's outdoor daytime colors are unmatched. You don't really need a LCD screen either... all it does is drain battery faster.
The only thing that the Vx reall falls short on is night-time/low light shooting, where it gets really grainy and resolution deteriates. However that can be solved with the correct lighting solution and the right adjustment of framerate/apature.
There's a reason it is used for almost every profressional skateboard video
yeah, I thought I would just throw that out. Luckily I have an awesome film teacher that convinces the school to buy whatever I tell him. 2 gl2's and 2 mac g5s to add to our already extensive line up coming in the next week or so. Plus I can take cameras when I want, like I am taking a gl2 to CO next week to film US Freeskiing open at Vail, and my friends and such. It will suck when I go to college next year with losing this resource.
k, so heres some news... ebay is usually cheap for a reason. dont be an idiot... theres good stuff on there, but just as much broken crap.. and paypal wont always protect you. just go to your locally reputable camera shop and buy something used there.
I would seriously go with ebay man...you can get a VX1000 or 2000 with that much money. So it is up to you. And for the people saying that the VX1000 is actually better than the VX2000 aren't 100% correct. You can still get the same picture on a VX2 it is just harder to adjust. And the colours aren't that much "duller" anyways. Plus for skiing the mic on the VX2 is fine...so it is really up to you, personally I would say go with a VX2 just because it is still possible to find the parts if you need a repair or anything, and people have modded MK1's to fit on them.
well i guess its not proven but ive read plenty of reviews and pretty much all of them say the vx1 is better. though there are some things the vx2's are better for, but for skiing id rather have the vx1000
