Replying to Pray for Kevo- A story of pain and loss...well, mostly loss.
*Originally posted in ski equipment, but I decided since it is really important to the rest of my season, I would post it in here.
Today I snapped my Mantras. They are totalled. I took them to my shop and they are working on warrantying them for me. I took probably the worst fall of my life going maybe 50 miles per hour and then started to cartwheel. Somewhere along the course of cartwheeling 3 times I double ejected. Miraculously, I am fine, even though I broke my prodigies from landing on my face on one of the cartwheels. Somehow I didn't even get a bruise. My skis, on the other hand, aren't so good. When I hiked back up to pick them up, I noticed that one of my skis (imposible to tell if it was on my right or left leg at the time of the fall) was snapped in front of the binding. The guys at my shop said they had never seen anything like it happen to a Volkl. In all likelyhood, my leg should have broken before my ski broke. So, my one ski quiver is now out of commission. To top things off, Mantras are pretty much sold out in North America, and it is going to take 6-8 weeks to get new ones. There is a chance that my shop will work with me and let me pick something of comparable price to replace my skis, and then they would keep the replacement skis when they get in. The biggest thing is that it comes down to this- No more Mantras for Kevo. Normally I would be so pissed and upset about something like this, but I am pretty thankful to not have gotten seriously hurt and I am still in disbelief that I snapped one of the stiffest skis on the market. In the words of the drunken monkey on the Simpsons..."Pray for Kevo" so that I may get some new skis real soon and get back on the slopes soon.
