*Originally posted in ski equipment, but I decided since it is really important to the rest of my season, I would post it in here.
Today I snapped my Mantras. They are totalled. I took them to my shop and they are working on warrantying them for me. I took probably the worst fall of my life going maybe 50 miles per hour and then started to cartwheel. Somewhere along the course of cartwheeling 3 times I double ejected. Miraculously, I am fine, even though I broke my prodigies from landing on my face on one of the cartwheels. Somehow I didn't even get a bruise. My skis, on the other hand, aren't so good. When I hiked back up to pick them up, I noticed that one of my skis (imposible to tell if it was on my right or left leg at the time of the fall) was snapped in front of the binding. The guys at my shop said they had never seen anything like it happen to a Volkl. In all likelyhood, my leg should have broken before my ski broke. So, my one ski quiver is now out of commission. To top things off, Mantras are pretty much sold out in North America, and it is going to take 6-8 weeks to get new ones. There is a chance that my shop will work with me and let me pick something of comparable price to replace my skis, and then they would keep the replacement skis when they get in. The biggest thing is that it comes down to this- No more Mantras for Kevo. Normally I would be so pissed and upset about something like this, but I am pretty thankful to not have gotten seriously hurt and I am still in disbelief that I snapped one of the stiffest skis on the market. In the words of the drunken monkey on the Simpsons..."Pray for Kevo" so that I may get some new skis real soon and get back on the slopes soon.

that is a really wicked story, wicked as in bad. having your ski snap when it is a hard to find ski sucks and as i can imagine you arent happy about it. the fact that you didnt die on the cartwheel is miraculous as well. i pray for your skis and the hopefulness that you will get new ones. ammmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm not complaining man. And did you see the term "one ski quiver" in the thread? The Mantras were my only skis.

Yeah because 184 Mantras are such a girl ski? They cost the same as the Gotomas and you have to be stronger to ski the Mantras because they are so much stiffer. The Gotomas are only 11mm wider so you obviously don't know what you are talking about. Seriously, who would ever call classic big mountain skis like the Explosive and the Mantra a girl ski?

not if they break.... Probably a bad ski, bad core or shitty mount.. if it broke in the line where the holes are flip a bitch at your shop, make sure there is epoxy in ther holes obviously. if it broke anywhere else you should get warrranty especially if there prety new. VOlkl is usually buff but skis are made by epeople and people fuck up.

No it broke pretty far in front of the mount, so no problem there. I sent em back to Volkl. Hopefully it goes well.

They have them here. I just saw a pair on the rack in 184 for sale like 2 hours ago. Too bad they sold out of the warehouse pretty much immediately, warantee isn't likely to happen... get some 182 Gotamas if you can, or something comparable I guess.

When you say warranty isn't likely to happen, are you saying that they won't get them to me this year because they are out of stock in the warehouses or because of the way it broke? My shop said that they have had issues of the skis being out of stock before and they take the ski into their stock when it finally ships and let the customer pick out another ski off the shelf so that they aren't out of a ski for the entire season.

That sucks man. Maybe see if you could get like a store credit for the value of the skis and then buy these
http://pmgearusa.com/bromodel/bromodelf.htm .
Would you still recommened the Mantra's to me? I'm debating between those Bro skis and the Mantra at the moment.
