They make some citrus based base cleaner which seems to be what most people suggest. Cheaper then Swix stuff, works great, and better for the environment.

dont use base cleaner, its acutally better to get a build up of way in your base. if yuor bases are dirty, put on a layer of all temperature, iron it in really good, and then scrape it off before it cools, that will get rid of the dirt and whatnot, while mainting that nice way buildup you've been working towards all season

i usualy only use a base cleaner when i'm ptexing, or if the base is realy dirty. but even so, i can't see why it would make a diference if you strip it every time or not. you might use more wax, but that's it.

hey, a smart person for once. Cleaners arent good for your bases on a regular - basis. hehe. Just put a coat of any wax on your sticks, and scrape them while the wax is still warm (not dripping, but warm). Then rewax them. Best way without drying the shit outta yo bizases.

I just use what the shop gives me it looks like he dumps it out of a paint can or gas can with a metal hose coming out but it is citrus based as well. It works good and cleans anything like your scrapers etc.

how do you guys get all the wax of your bases before you ptex them, and how hot do you guys turn your irons before the ptex melts? i have an old house iron, sorry but thats all i have right now, no money for a new one, how do you do it?

^just scrape the wax off nice and good and dont use an iron for ptex. Light the stick of ptex and keep the flame on it and take a scraper and scrape off some of the carbon then it will drip nice and clean and keep the ptex candle rotating so it doesnt all droop to one side and just try to keep the drips consistent and do it in layers so it doesnt all just fall out later. Be ready cuz it will begin to drip pretty fast after a little bit. Then when its hardened enough just scrape it with a metal scraper and make sure u go in the right direction, tip to tail. Sand it even....then give it a few nice waxes.

yup. base cleaners arnt good for your skis. they are nice for cleaning tools, but dont use um on your skis. either all temp wax, or go to the grocery store and buy some parafin wax. its the base material of ski wax, just without the additives. its super cheap. toss a coat on, and scrape it off. itll pull everything off, and then you just rewax with a higher end wax. bingo, your done.

yea just do a hot scape it does wonders, i learned to do it from a racer friend so it has to be good, and it's yes it is better on your bases than citrus because your bases perform best with a few different flouro's in it
