Alright, some of you might recall me looking at pow skis for next year. I stumbled across the Volkl Mantra and its dimensions and description sounds right. Anyone here have experience with them?
I ride them everyday. Great ski in pretty much all conditions. They float really nice in powder but they are stiff enough to make some really nice GS turns on hardpack. Since they are pretty stiff you do have to really power em through the tight spots, but it isn't much of an issue. I love mine.
make sure to mount it back 1.5mm behind the factory line if you get a pair for better powder performance
once you do that, this ski slays everything
no speed limit whatsoever, blasts crud and chopped up snow, floats powder much better than even I thought for such a stiff ski, rails like a GS ski on hardpack
a true everyday out west ski
and fyi, I'm 6'1, 205 and went with the 184 over the 191cm for Tahoe and never felt any reason to question my decision - no tip dive even in thigh deep powder, no lack of stability at any speed, including straightlines
the stiffness allowed me to go shorter than usual and still not give up any speed limit (and by the way, the 184 Mantra is stiffer, and has a longer running length than the 190 Gotama)
ive been thinking about getting a pair and putting a pair of touring bindings on them. I figured a 94mm waist is a good wide ski but still easy to tour with, and i dont really need a tail because i wont be riding switch with tour bindigns
it's like barely twinned. like maybe a cm. and curves up just at the very end. you could ride switch on groomers just fine with it but on anything else no way.
