the other day i tried a cork 5 and ended up injuring my achiles tendon.. i searched the internet and it gave me info but when i went to the hospital they didnt tell me what exactly happened to it. they x-rayed it and showed no signs of fracture or chiping. The doctor said go home, ice it and ski when you can bear the pain.. does this more likely mean it was a less severe strain or that i tore it or what? its the day after and im bearing like half weight withought it hurting

i doubt you tore it...maybe a micro-tears in the tissue, but not completely. i know my dad did that when he was young and he had to have surgery immediately.
other than that, i know i've got 2...one on each leg

If you btore it you would be balling your eyes out. The doctor would immediatly tell you, and get you a surgery time.

mild sprain or pull. trust me, its not a question when you tear a tendon

well 1st you cant fracture or chip it its not a bone and a xray wont show u anything
You need a MRI to see whats wrong with it.
maybe its a partial tear if your swollen up a lot or just streched it and lost its elasticity which will repair itself in about 6 months you'll be back to about 95%

it'll take a while to heal up, so expect it to be hurting for a bit. you should stretch it out as much as possible to accelerate the healing process. once you can walk on it with all of your body weight, you should work out on a soft surface with a lengthy warm up. this should help strengthen your achilles tendon as quickly as possible so you can hit the slopes in no time.

what happens when you tear it is it goes all the way up to a little past your the back of your knee so when you tear it it bundles up into a spring and hurts soo bad, my friend just did his about 2 weeks ago and had to get surgery hes out for a year.

thanks for the feedback.. well tommorow will be my second day with it.. the swelling seems to be subsiding thanks to advil and ice.. im feeling like pain right now but its not bad its just like something to be annoyed by. The internet always scares me when i look up shit like that.. it told me that anything less than a 25% tear i wouldnt feel until the day after.. what a bunch of assholes!

The achlles tendon (a.k.a. the tibiocalcaneal or gastroc-soleus complex tendon) is the tendon that attaches your calf muscle to your heel. It is an elastic contractile structure and is thus susceptible to strains if it is subjected to too much tension.
Given that you can bear half weight just the day after, I would say that it is a minor strain (first degree strain). There are some microtears to the tendon or the muscle tendon intersection and this will cause you a fair amount of pain. It is very important to minimize the swelling so that the tendon can heal quickly and scar tissue doesn't build up.
PIER: Pressure, Ice, Elevation and Rest. Tendon's have a good blood supply so it will heal quickly. Keep off the slopes for the next week or two. It really depends on how you feel about it. In a couple days start to stretch out your calf muscle (each day) so you don't end up with resrticted range of motion. This would cause you to reinjure it frequently. And as soon as you can bear weight fully, do so. This will prevent muscle atrophy in the leg.

sounds like a strain. I strained mine when i sprained my ankle a few years ago...it feels so weird walking cause you can't really control your foot all that well. You'll be back to 100% in a couple weeks

i don't know if someone else said this, but if it has been constantly hurting you or like on and off, but still hurts bad, you prob have achilles tendonitis (idk how to spell). i got it from baseball and its pretty much like a sprain i guess. i had to go to PT for like 3 weeks but def could've healed w/o it. just do some excersises you would do for the calf, but bend your leg so u feel it in the achilles. i know im really not making sense, but PM me if u need any help.

yeah tendonitis is a plausible thing b/c what he said about the constant pain is correct and the only thing that will heal it is if you stop everything, or go to PT where they know how to work it
if your going with the ice thing, do 15 min on and 15 off and repeat for an hour or two

o i just thought of some excercise i did that really felt good. u take one of those like yoga stretch bands or something (they're like a soft flexible thing) and you hold each end of it and put the middle of the band around your foot. then you pull really lightly until you feel a little pull. if this hurts more than it feels good, then something's really wrong.
