Some tips on cheap skiing

Poles, buy old cheap ass ones and spray paint

Skis and bindings, buy the good shit from last year, dont buy the not quite as good from this year

Outerwear, find some deals, all you gotta do is make it look good and have some decent performance, you get wet, you get wet, it happens

anyone else got some cheap stickin it to the man tips?

I actually tend to not agree with the skis adn bindings one, buy the new shit every 2 years that way one year it is hot shit and they next they are decent. Also that way you wont be ridding on stuff too old and by paying each year for new setpup

I am not here to support the ski industry. If the industry disappeared tomorrow, I would take what I have and deal with it. If the hills shut down, I would hike.

$120 for poles? Wtf?

Duct tape is my only tip. Lots of Duct tape.

uhh actually, i know that it costs $250 to make a pair of line celebs...line has their own warehouse set u and everything...think about it. if armada doesnt have their own warehouse or place to produce their skis, they are going to have to pay more to produce the ski, so that in itself is a huge cost.dealers make very little off armada's b/c the cost of making the ski is so high.

wecome to capatalism, you mark yr stuff up to make a profit, If you want quality pay for it, if not go buy some equipment at walmart, for christs sakes, although some products like goggles are heavily marked up
nobody is forcing u to buy them,
same as $300 jeans or $1000.00 shoes

i highly doubt that one, because they are made in china, surprisingly the parts for skis aren't that expenisve when purchased in bulk, the only problem is that they take time to make, and the money issue got fixed when they moved to china, do you really think it costs more to make a pair of celebs when they sell invaders for 300 bucks? righhht

Actually the paint on the car. Costs 1/4 of a penny per can. No lie... pepsi makes cans of soda for under a penny a can.

my take on it is... make more money, that way paying for all that stuff doesn't seem like a big deal, its an expensive lifestyle, deal with it
Lately being in college I have accepted that last years stuff is probably as good as this years stuff as companies usually don't change molds yearly...

and I said, buy last years, buy ebay, buy demo/used stuff, if stuff is "used" unless it is used by someone on this site I have pretty good faith that I can do more damage in a day than what damage those sticks have seen in the hands of the average consumer...

some good cheap skiing tips:

ebay, proform, used stuff. if your on a budget, buying skis in a shop isnt the place to look. shops offer guidance, advice, and support. if you understand what you are doing, there isnt too huge a need to pay for those services.

snowboard outerwear. a good jacket from a company like quiksilver (which i have been INCREDIBLY happy with, cost about 120, and the same for some nice pants. thats less than 250 for really nice outerwear. if your dead broke, buy clearance shit.

bindings: if your buying a look or sal. binding, which is what 90% of us ride on, realise they have been pretty much unchanged for quite a few years. they can be scored brand new on ebay for anywhere from 60-130 bucks. dont worry about it being "freeride specific", cause they are all identical.

boots, are more tricky. yah really dont have too many options for gettin um cheap unless you d bag it try um on in a shop, and buy um online. but like i said, thats a D bag move, and i hope noone would be so shady.

work at the resort. i get paid 7.5 an hour to ride our park. thats pretty much all i do. on occasion i fix the stuff that gets rutted out. but its super fun, and i get paid decent money to ski. plus i get a free pass, and big discounts.

Rent/ownership of land, tax, employees, delivery men, shipping, and the money the store takes.

If each ski takes say, 3 man hours of actual hand on time, and the employees are getting paid, say $20 an hour, a very low wage mind you, that's already $60 on the price tag, not including materials, packaging, shipping, advertising, etc etc.
Paying for all those presses and paying the people who design the graphics and test out the product and a whackload of other shit adds up. $250 to produce a single pair of skis doesn't seem out of reach.

the best way to save money on skiing is to live close to a mountain... i fucking spend more on hotels, hostels, and shittty rooms-with-beds than i actually do on gear or lift tickets! oh, and ask for ski shit @ christmas. that works too.

Instead of spray painting my poles I rapped them In color tape with black and pink cuz thats what I had. It looks cooler then paint. I would post a pic. but I can't afford a camera.
